A government that promotes hyper inflation with unreasonable policies should also be ready to pay wages that will allow workers to survive the effects of it's policies just like the members of NASS who allocates hyper high salaries for themselves and are now leaving above inflation & poverty.

Have factor in the cost of contesting election, how much did you collect from them during last election.

State and federal salary structure should be abolished and one structure should be made for both state and labor. They should be properly audited.

This is what state government is using to loot money through so many ghost workers. Remove ghost staff, each state will pay 1million minimum wage.

Leave that thing, we have passed that level in Nigeria. If governors and senators can be siphoning millions of dollars abroad and driving big cars, why can't the common man afford a small car ?
The best thing is for governors to come with what they can pay for
Electricity
Housing
Feeding
Health Care
Transportation
School fees etc
They have to tell the masses what they can afford for each of the things listed above. We have left the era of "I will be paying you 40k", you have to split the money and tell us from the 40k, the amount for housing is..., Feeding is ------ Transportation is -----. A plate of food is not less than 1k now. 3 times a day is 3k, a month is 90k.So are you telling me you will spend 90k salary for just food ?

So many of us saying it's not realistic have not looked at the issues critically.

The purpose of the proposed living wage is to ensure the lowest worker, his/her spouse and 4 dependants can live a basic life without the need to seek extra.

Now, with that said, let's really break down the estimate for food(N270,000):
270,000÷30 days= N9,000 per day for 6 persons.
Meaning N1,500 per person daily
Or N500 per meal.
Is that too much?

Next is transportation (N110,000).
Unless we are lying to ourselves, a junior worker or senior worker all pay the same bus fare, the same as school children.
Let's break it down.
N110,000÷22 days= 5,000 per day
Working father: N2,000 (to and fro).
Market mother: N1,000 (to and fro)
4 school kids: N500×4= 2000 daily
Is that too much?

Factor in Rent, Clothing, medication, utilities and you'll see this family is only just surviving.
This won't lead to inflation, rather stability in the economy because, money will flow again as purchasing power has increased.
It is a welcome development because only a government that is genuinely concerned about making wealth will be able to pull this off.

Omo, this thing you just mentioned go far o. I’ve never been in public service but I’ve been in private service in at least two multinationals. Even in these multinationals, they have ghost staffs. Like my branch in one instance was a zonal branch. It had hundreds of ghost workers that I could account for; just imagine the ones I can’t account for.

Some Governors never pay ₦30k minimum wage labour is not talking about 6i5k. Negotiating what is not feasible makes no sense at all. Let us see how all these will end in favour of NLC

How much does an average Governor earns minus the ones they steal per month?
Even more than 615k they can pay it.
It is because of greed and because theres more to steal, that's why they keep on stealing.

How many Nigerians are Civil servants?
Our Government just have a way of making the masses believe poverty is a gift.

Yeah. The private sector would take a hit but they’ll adjust. If the government provides financial aids through bank loans and the companies also will systematically increase the quality and value of their products and services.

Overall, with such amount as minimum wage, people can avoid to buy more things at even higher rates or prices.

It is a welcome development because only a government that is genuinely concerned about making wealth will be able to pull this off.
Looters waiting to share oil proceeds will kick against it, meanwhile, every single political office holder since 1999 leaves office stupendously rich.

My bro, God bless you for this breakdown. However, be rest assured that the airheads won’t get it.

The smallest indomie sachet is 1% of the current minimum wage. The average Nigerian can’t afford indomitable or spaghetti 500g.

615 or nothing
Re: Minimum Wage: Labour Fires Back At Governors by Gajagojo: 8:18am On May 05
Salary level is not a right
It has a direct relationship to productivity
In most cases
The work you do. MUST generate income out of which your employer pays you
If you own a business you know this.

Minimum wage applies not only to government but to businesses too

How many business owners take home one million at the end of the month

The money must come from SOMEWHERE
If I own a suya business or a noodle business how do I pay 600000 a month

All this talk about living wage is nice in theory but
where will the money come from
If the employee does not generate the money he has to be fired
That is how the world works
If I own a bakery and a petrol station
I cannot take money from the petrol station to pay bakery workers
If that is happening then The bakery needs to close

The money to pay salaries must come from SOMEWHERE

Each state can pay that money easily, the governors only need to quote N1b for N1b projects instead of N10b for N1b project going forward. Those governors knew 95% of Nigeria populace have same believe as you that's why they steal billions upon billions as governor and became panic unable to face EFCC when invited

You got your facts backwards, wages is infact a right of a worker. Since the abolition of slavery, it is an established law that a worker MUST be paid
If your business is not PRODUCTIVE, then you have no business employing workers.

Again, there's a minimum number of workers (50> workers) an organization requires to operates that'll make it mandatory to pay the minimum wage.

So it doesn't apply to the Suya man as you put it.

All states are not equal in terms of their FAAC and IGR, however states like Delta, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Lagos shouldn’t have any excuse in paying any minimum wage approved by the FG.

Any governor from the aforementioned states that can’t pay the minimum wage should go for psychiatric test.

All Govs are capable of paying the proposed minimum wage and should pay.

You mentioned, Lagos, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Delta etc. Also remember that Taraba, Bauchi, Zamfara, Enugu, Osun etc also have a much smaller workforce to pay.

Increasing minimum wage will take away and ftransfer the idle money Govs always loot from them to their workers.

Can you Nigerians stop uttering rubbish sometimes in the name of sounding woke? I m pained when I see intellectuals or the vast majority discussing as if we are not in this same country?

The NLC and TUC shared questionaires, made commendable effort to get across all states of the federation to check expenses and all,and came up with a minimum wage and you sit in your sitting room to say it is "unrealistic"

Na una do unaselves in this damn country!!!

Let tinubu go and sort it out!

What do u mean 615,000 is unrealistic?

Is fuel at 800 per litre realistic? But Nigerians are paying that!!
Is electricity tariff hike of more than 300% realistic? But Nigerians are paying that!
Is the skyrocketed price of foodstuffs realistic? Yet that is what the common man has to pay in this damn country!!

Is what our senators, governors, reps, president, etc earning realistic? Yet they dont bat an eyelid to collect their pay!!!

It is only when it comes to the minimum wage a worker should earn that "unrealistic" comes up!!!

I dont know if some of us know...but the sad reality is that most families CANNOT afford to eat 3 square meals anymore in this horrible situation of national governance we have found ourselves!!

Most times we fault NLC but they have done their homework and given what they got from their questionaires and research! They even stipulated that what they put out(615,000) was 'before' the electricity tariff hike and yet some are making excuses for this government!

I weep when I think of those that cant afford the basics because of this bad governance. Dont sit in ur house with all that u have to say "unrealistic" when we know Nigeria is rich enough to pay it if our leaders will tell you the truth!!!

C'est dommmage!

It really is...such a pity that this is what the citizens have been reduced to. "To think that a minimum wage accrued to them" is unrealistic! Such a pity indeed!
