Please I need help with this.

A friend of mine got a job in Canada with 2years duration, hopefully to finish everything and travel before December.

His passport is is expiring December 2026. He is very confused if his passport won't be a problem?

Please is it advisable that he should renew his passport and is it still 6months to expiring date before one can reapply for a new passport?

Thank you

Please make sure to verify the legitimacy of the job offer and never pay anyone for job processing. There are many scams related to Canada job offers and work permits nowadays.

Everyone should refrain from posting fictitious questionable timeline.

Even US visa with 1 million years validity, will definitely pass through at least 2-3 months processing time.

We are not kids here please.

If you are this knowlegable in how ircc visa processing, timing to dispute another person processing time then why do you use an agent to process ur own visa??
Pls,Go and research well before u argue becos with usa visa and depending on applicant age a faster processing time is very possible!

Please experienced elders come and offer your 2cent for this situation.

I recently landed in Canada as a PR and still hoping for a job.

Before I landed, I engaged my girlfriend and we did introduction. Marriage was postponed till later to ensure that my marital status didn't change since I already had Copr and visa and didn't think having my application reopened before landing was the best option at that stage.

In the last one week, she has been on my neck to start processing our reunion. I explained to her that while we want this reunion now, we can't do anything till situation normalizes. She is suggesting that she applies for a tourist visa. I told her that while tourist visa is good it may not be the best option for our current situation. Here is the situation, we don't have the accumulated finances or income flow or assets to support a tourist visa application at the moment.

I suggested, that she calms down till income starts coming, so that we can arrange my trip to Nigeria for our marriage. Afterwards we can leverage one policy that IRCC rolled in around May 2023 and submit a PR application then with the AOR apply for spousal visit Visa and SOWP all at once. She considers my suggestion deceptive that I don't want her to join me, hence I am not approving of her tourist visa plan.

From her stance and what she heard from one of her colleagues she thinks the financial situation which affects the potential POF she may need to apply for her tourist visa can be arranged by agents. All my efforts to make her understand that she doesn't have a solid case with the tourist visa plan and that I don't trust Nigeria agents and can't allow her jeopardize our future reunion with unreliable documents showing numbers.

According to what she heard from a colleague too she suggested to go ahead and acquire our certificate but I told her that it will be marriage by proxy. Especially if I don't leave Canada at the time, it will be issued and Canada doesn't recognise proxy marriages. Hence, if we apply anything with that certificate it may backfire.

The constant pressure to do something about our reunion is not helping issues at all. Please if you have any suggestion that may help us, we are willing to listen.

Some folks who already have US visas get their Canadian visa approved in less than one month.

Since applicants with US visas are not required to submit supporting documentation, their applications are reviewed and processed quickly.

They only require them to provide their NIN and travel passport as documentation. Other documents are optional for them.

Their applications are processed under CAN+.

While it’s good to have your partner close-by due to lonliness, Please don’t let anyone pressure you. Focus on getting a job and settling down first sir. Life abroad is not run on uncertainties, ensure you plan properly and take calculated risk to avoid financial & mental stress

No such thing as an international drivers license

Each country has its own regulations on which foreign drivers license us accepted in the country for how long.

FRSC issued by Nigeria is fine

You can only use this for 2 months for driving in Canada, thereafter you send it to Nigeria embassy here in Ottawa with 100cad draft for authentication b4 you can take G1 test grin

You asked for Elder's advise bah? You get mind to take am?? grin

First, pressuring you for application is a RED FLAG! All I see is an overzealous woman who is eager to attain 'power'. If you can, DO NOT DO COURT MARRIAGE. Infact, no marry this one at all. You will be signing your own ruin.

Now, in the event that you gullibly agree to marry this person and go to court, you can apply for spousal sponsorship. I can effectively tell you that you DO NOT NEED a POF for that. Neither does she. All you need is a Full time Job!

Tourist visa is a waste of your time. Chances are high they will refuse it anyway and in the event that it succeeds, your life will be on a setback because she can't work and you will work your ass twice as much to accommodate a liability before you apply for what you should have applied for in the first place.

I advise you ignore her and settle yourself down first before thinking of one woman.

Babes boku as you already know or will soon know. A reasonable 'lifelong partner' will allow you settle down while an 'opportunist' will press you because all they think about is their selfish interest.

No let PR shack you oo! Yes you can work as much as you want but you go see work sef your body go give up due to extreme stress. Whatever you do, do not apply for anybody for the next 2 years! Not that you can't but you will regret losing that personal space/freedom if you do and that includes your parents if you have them.

Your PR is your chance to rethink your decisions.

No talk say person no warn you. Court marriage certificate na your own handcuffs in the west. Na my 2 cents be that!

I have no stake in this, but I find it very distasteful that a woman I want to marry does not trust me in a project that concerns both of us and would benefit us.

Obviously, I cannot advise you what to do, but if I were you, I know what to do.

lol Lot of Naija men here plenty well well wey dey pay child support and mortgage on the homes they can’t step their feet into. Some don even japada comot for Canada to avoid paying their Ex.

I remember the story of a couple who landed Canada. The wife started by giving her husband her own rules & regulations during their 1st night here making him to realize they are no longer in Naija, this is to show this act was already planned.

I remember the day I went to the Court to make an application. I was close to the Family Mediation section, na only women dey queue for that side, your guess is as good as mine for the reason why they are there.

I have attended several Nigerian churches here, most times the Pastors preaching centers around our women should try cooperating with their husbands and not allow the devil to ruin their homes.

If you aren't here today, she will live her life .. I guess what I'm trying to say in summary is to make sure you settle first before you do anything for/with her ..

Pressuring you in the first place is a gigantic RED FLAG... RUN if you can . Western world no be 9ja wey Man is in control ooo , think twice before you do anything. If you rush into anything , na d same speed you go take rush out and nothing is promised in life . Have a solid plan.

Naija guys are already looking towards East African ladies, those ladies are homely and most of them have family values.

Concerning one partner trying to ruin the other, yes we are not innocent but hardly will you see a man who is hell bent trying to ruin his wife, not too common among we guys. It pays them to ruin men because divorce to them is like winning a trophy.

Can you imagine the total sum she gets monthly after a DV. Is it from child/spousal support, govt CCB benefits as a result of declaring single parent income and the income from their minimum wage jobs, all these payment can amount to $5000 monthly especially if she has at least 2 kids. You can see it’s a win win situation for them. Can they dare divorcing their husbands while in Nigeria?

Funny Nkaluu800 thinks it's not possible. Just dey play. All man's situation isn't same therefore all applications are not treated equally.. I have a valid USA visa with lots of travel experiences and got my Canada TRV in just 6 days after biometric.
My wife applied later and got hers in 8 days while my 3 years old daughter got hers in 1 month. So timelines differ. IRCC get the final decision when to demand for passport.

A lady that doesn't trust your judgements and future plans but hearsays from friends, spirit and strangers is pressuring you for what? You just enter Canada from Naija eventhough as a PR which gives you upper hand no mean say you no go stable first in terms of job, accommodation, your ride, and hold your side together as a MAN. Why does she want it now now? If she can't be patient and believe in the process, bro na gold digger be that. Look elsewhere. The highest mistake a man would have is having a wrong partner. It kills faster than sickness. If kids Kon enter the matter, bro you are ruined.

I think many of the commenters are just exaggerating the situation. She's just worried, perhaps having heard so many stories about how japa people move on once they are abroad. The only problem I have with her is just that she's letting her worries get in the way of trust for you. There is no reason she shouldn't trust you. You guys should be a team. Did you do something in the past that makes her not trust you now? If you have been above aboard and she still doesn't trust you or your judgement, then you should be worried. It appears she's trusting friends more than she's trust your judgement. That's not good.

a woman that cannot follow due process is a red flag to bring abroad. This type never have a mind of their own. So if she gets the proxy oluwole marriage cert will they photoshop you into pictures to be submitted 🤣🥱

A woman proposing of using oluwole marriage certificate is definitely a desperado.
She actually want to marry Canada not the OP.

She definitely want to use that man.

If feel sorry for the OP in advance if the oluwole wife finally turned his head 😴

@ Kuniennam, I have been happily, joyfully, blissfully married for over a decade; having being indirectly in your GF's situation before, I can tell you authoritatively that this is the best advise so far. I can't say more than this in a public space, you can send me a pm to elaborate further if you need more clarity as I am not ready to engage people who will mention my post due to opposing views. I'll be willing to share some insights with her to allay her fears if need be. This situation is not as complicated as it seems. It's all in her head- she needs to see the bigger picture beyond hearsays from her acquaintances (yes, there are people speaking to her, fueling her fears)

I wish you all the best

Well said 👍

If he has done anything to break her trust before then this act of hers is understandable.. if you’ve not been in such situation before you won’t understand what that lady is going through at the moment .

Except in a case where they’ve never had trust issues before then I can now think differently of the lady

@kuniennam, you wear the shoe and know where it bites. If any of the concerns ‘men’ have mentioned here is remotely true, you know what to do and if you choose to take advise of the 1% success cases in this kind of situation hoping yours is included in it , goodluck to you. Don’t learn from experience, you may not come out of it in one piece. When chips are down and you are crying in your closet, motivational speakers will be in their ‘happy’ homes or cashing out their CCB/Spousal support/ Child support etc.

Enough said! Good luck my brother!

kuniennam, apply for the visit visa to buy time. If it’s refused it doesn’t affect future spousal sponsorship. But this babe is showing all the signs of woman wey fit run you streets abroad.
