The introduction of yet another tax, in the form of Cybersecurity Levy, on Nigerians who are already suffering severe economic distress is further proof that the government is more interested in milking a dying economy instead of nurturing it to recovery and growth.

This does not only amount to multiple taxation on banking transactions, which are already subject to various other taxes including stamp duties but negates the Government’s avowed commitment to reduce the number of taxes and streamline the tax system.

The imposition of a Cybersecurity Levy on bank transactions is particularly sad given that the tax is on the trading capital of businesses and not on their profit hence will further erode whatever is left of their remaining capital, after the impact of the Naira devaluation and high inflation rate.

It is inconceivable to expect the suffering citizens of Nigeria to separately fund all activities of the government. Policies such as this not only impoverish the citizens but make the country’s economic environment less competitive. At a time when the government should be reducing taxes to curb inflation, the government is instead introducing new taxes. And when did the office of the NSA become a revenue collecting centre?

And why should that purely national security office receive returns on a specific tax as stated in the new cybersecurity law? -PO

Imagine that MTN starts deducting money from every recharge you make as security fee to protect their infrastructures.

Is it customers that should protect a company? The banks should protect themselves from cyberattacks.

The money from revenue is no longer enough to take care of their opulent lifestyle, hence the incessant taxing to get the funding to live in luxury.

They also know there are people who will support and fight for them, regardless of their bad and anti-people policies.

that’s why most of them can’t afford their education,they seek admission in states that has been subsidizing education for them yet they will still bite the fingers that fed them.thats their typical characteristic.

Can you afford to pay the levies?

The levy will be charged on all accounts and transactions except a few.

Do you fall into that category of the few?

Obi can afford to hold his money in foreign currencies outside the country devoid of much of these levies. Can you?

Additionally, the rich and wealthy are the smartest in paying little to no taxes because they can exploit the loopholes in the tax laws.

Obi is a wealthy businessman, he can decide to pay the levies or exploit the loopholes in them. He’s speaking out of concerns for majority of Nigerians that will be terribly affected by this policy.

Some part of me is wishing you will just be quiet and let APC, Tinubu and his region continue inflicting pains on the masses and destroying Nigeria. They will say you distracted them from building Nigeria. I also disagree with the timing of the introduction of the cybersecurity level. What I find more appalling is your hypocrisy as regards the discrepancy between your previous stance on education during your time as 'gor-vor-nor’and your current opposition to this financial security measure. You boldly claimed education isn't for the poor, after jacking up tuition fees. This sort of hypocrisy stinks to high heavens. But you have your audience.

Someone woke up from a deep slumber and remembered it's possible to charge Nigerians per transaction and kaboom, a policy was made. No citizens engagement, no impact assessment. Because they know they have plenty online BATeria infested hallelujah singers who dont have a brain of their own to defend their inefficiencies online.
