Please I need help,

My friend write IELTS exam few weeks ago, now the result is out and his result was withheld .

Below is the email sent to him by the exam body..
Dear Candidate,

Notification of Investigation of IELTS Test Result

We refer to your IELTS test 27/04/2024.

Strict quality control procedures are in place to protect the integrity and security of the IELTS test.
As part of these procedures, test results are routinely analysed by the IELTS Test Partners before they are issued to candidates.
As a result of these procedures, your test scores 27/04/2024 have come under scrutiny and are being investigated.
Your results are being withheld while this investigation is being conducted. Please note that all investigations are conducted without prejudice by the IELTS Test Partners.

The declaration on the IELTS application form that you agreed to includes the following statement: ‘I understand that my results may not be issued 7 days after the test if any of the IELTS Test Partners deem it necessary to review any matter associated with my test’.

Should you wish to offer any information that may support your test performance on 06/04/2024, please send a scanned handwritten statement to examsnigeria@ng.britishcouncil.org within 14 days of the date of this letter.

A template has been provided with this letter for you to use.
Your statement must be written in English in your own handwriting and signed by you.
Any correspondence received after 14 days will not be considered.

Please note that investigations take up to 12 weeks depending on the nature of the case.

Please can someone explain this .he is practically distraught and almost in tears right now..

A possible reason is that they suspect the candidate cheated, probably due to a high score. What type of test did your friend take, was it paper-based or omputer-based?

They probably noticed an anomaly and your friend may not be guilty... So he/she needs to be patient.

I don't see myself scoring less than 8.5 in IELTS though, so I don't see Nigerians performing well in IELTS as a reason for scrutiny. We are English speakers and we shouldn't be taking the exam in the first place.

they wrote paper type exam

My first IELTS exams with MOD was witheld, i had to write to them explaining that i sat for the exams myself and how it all went in the exam room. It was later released though. There was nothing spectacular about the result. Some persons had said then that it was probably that the performance was great and that was why it got withheld for investigation. That wasn't true.
Just write to them and see what happens afterwards

It's nearly impossible to cheat in IELTS exams unless you saw the question before the exams which is almost impossible.

My younger sisters own was also delayed for the same date.

She wrote in Benin.
