Hi everyone! I'm planning a trip to Jos for one weekend and I would like to ask some questions regarding the city. 1. Cost of Bus/Sienna transportation from Abuja? 2. Cost of accommodation for two nights? I'm looking at a budget hotel around University of Jos. 3. Recommended sights to see while in Jos? 4. General knowledge regarding personal safety while visiting Jos! Thank you! |

olamilarks:Like zeuss said, avoid moslems populated areas - and I believe that Unijos area is exactly the areas to avoid. I will recommended getting a hotel around the Operation safe haven, it is not a moslem populated area and you have the advantage of added security from the JTF operations headquarters. As for attractions, just Google, there is an amusement park, a wild life park, there is a lagoon with some rocks and I think canoes for recreation - best for group i think. You can try Yankari game reserve (it is far in Bauchi or Gombe state, atleast 200km away from Jos city), they have a rest home managed by oyingbos in the outskirts (i can't remember the name) but it is a bit far from city centre and may be risky from those fulani's attacks. In terms of safety, avoid the moslem areas and no do like say you be stranger. If you must ask questions, please ask elderly people or security agents or clean matured adults, avoid asking those road side sellers and taxi drivers or abokis. Becareful of one chance, yes it is rampant in Jos - they typically spray something or wave lased handkerchief or use brute force to make you inhale some substance from the handkerchief that will make you pass out or even show u a gun, and also about pick pockets especially while in taxis or keke or bus. |

Your first statement is bigoted. What if the OP is a muslim? Learn to be diplomatic and tolerant. |

Energist:he is trying to preserve a life and u say bigotry........ political correctness is why people die daily in Nigeria by the hands of the same murderers......don't worry it will get to your turn someday |

Energist:I'm a Yoruba Muslim, I don't find any bigotry in his first statement. Since moving to Abuja, I've learnt quickly that people up north don't regard our practice of Islam highly. I think the information BabbanBura shared is very helpful. Thanks for your input also, I'm just avoiding beer bottles flying all over the bar! |

olamilarks:"... people up north don't regard our practice of Islam highly" meaning you're taking the north as your benchmark for gauging Islam-ness. Na your wahala be that. |

Energist:I am referring to BabbanBura's post and your response to the post. You're entering uncharted territory... Deep down, I think religion is shit though, 200mili people can't be violently arguing over which of the fictional sons of Abraham to pitch their tent with while they can't even fix up their country. |

Energist:He is simply letting you know the facts and figures.....not aligned to ur disillusioned, denial posited and smokey screen mindset, then you respond by attacking his personal experience instead of focusing on issues raised. |

Hi everyone, thanks for your input. I did visit Jos like I planned. Here's the cost implications and summary of my trip: - Boarded a minivan at Nyanya park at 1300hrs for ₦6,000. - Arrived Jos at 1800hrs. - Keke to final destination around State low cost was around ₦250 - Hotel cost was about ₦15,000 for two nights. - Later at night, I went out to buy food at a QSR close by. For me, it was really cold that night, the locals said December period is much more brutal. Warm clothing is quite expensive in Jos, I'd advise you purchase your warm clothing wherever you're coming from. - Spent most of my time indoors, hell, the electricity was almost 24hrs. - Left Jos at 0900hrs on Sunday, same ₦6000 park to Abuja in a Ford minivan. Total cost implications: ₦50,000 or more. |

olamilarks:1. Bus/Sienna from Nyanya Park was for 6k. Front seat passenger, had to share with a guy for the four hour trip. Back was strained. 2. Got accommodation at Char-Rah Lodge for 15k for 2 Nights, 3 days. 3. Didn't see any sights lol. Only visited a QSR for food around Rantiya. 4. On the way out, while heading towards the park, I was profiled by men of the NPF as a Yahoo boy and after I IDed myself, he was still super rude. He was slapping the keke driver repeatedly for not having papers and offering a bribe. He later came to tell us to take another keke after several minutes delay. Aside this not much personal safety issues on my last trip to Jos. Looking forward to visiting again soon! Thanks everyone for the tips, they were super helpful! |
