FG Halts Lagos-calabar Coastal Road Project Realignment by wisdomguy4u(op): 8:11am On May 24, 2024
The federal government has shelved and diverted realignment of Lagos-calabar coastal road projects while also saving the telecommunications infrastructure and submarine cables, among others at the axis.
With the presidential directive, Telcos, MTN submarine cables, and workstations along the Okun-Ajah community axis have been saved from demolition after a thorough assessment of the EIA impact on infrastructure and business activities along the Okun-Ajah community axis.

The minister of Works, David Umahi, while addressing stakeholders meeting in Lagos on Compensation and Environmental Impact Assessment on the coastal road project informed community groups and traditional institutions in the state, particularly the Okun-Ajah community in Lagos.
Earlier, the Okun-Ajah community cried out and warned the federal and Lagos State governments over the alleged illegal variation to the Lagos-calabar coastal highway route which put six villages at the risk of demolition and also the displacement of three traditional kings within the Community if the plan was not shelved.

Umahi buttressed the need to redesign the route to save the 600 years ancestry of Okun-Ajah community, adding that, the president, out of compassion to realise the project, added human phase to save property and infrastructure of Okun-Ajah axis while applauding efforts of the president to divert alignment routes to save the communities from the ongoing demolition exercise stretching along the indigenous communities in the state

The minister said, following the gazetted alignment, and order of the EIA assessment, over 750 houses were expected to be demolished in the old alignment while 450 houses were marked for demolition in the new alignment after thorough assessment of the project along the Okun-Ajah community axis.

Umahi also explained that the project approval followed the process and went through the Bureau of Public Procurement (BBP) after consideration by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) as prescribed by law.
Umahi said the project followed certification process and Environmental Impact Assessment Acts and lent credence to it and followed the processes involved.

Umahi noted that BPP issued a certificate of no objection on the project to the Ministry of Works in line with the Procurement Act but added that the Ministry of Works took the certificate of no objection to FEC and FEC debated and approved it.

Lol. There was no thorough EIA in the first place?

I can recall that an Arise news journalist once asked Umahi during a press conference if they have an EIA done for the project before it was signed off and she was mocked and tagged as disrespectful by some sycophants.

Win win for Okun Ajah and the resort on that axis.

Exactly, even when some reasonable people were asking the right questions, they were being attacked and tagged obidents. It was obvious the project did not follow due process and was shabby to siphon money. But APC erats were attacking anyone who asked the right questions

Lol. The problem with lying is that somehow, the truth will eventually come to light. A Lady journalist asked if proper EIA was done on the project and if they can get a copy of the report but the minister kept trying to deflect the question with a foolish jibe at her accent. They now have to redesign the route around that axis

The target was LANDMARK THE IGBOMAM'S PROPERTY. That has been achieved through a fellow Igbo man. Dave Umahi is a typical Judas who betrayed his own people for favour.

It is so unfortunate how things are done in this part of the world. When sound minds critisizes and pinpoints some irregularities on how these incompetent bunch are running this government, some ill-fed and slavish individuals whom are paid peanuts to be online day and night, will tag you an Obidient or IPOB. The effect is that every criticism is now seen from the prism of tribe and reason why Nigeria is constantly and consistently going down the drain.Respected characters like Wole Soyinka is even now becoming clannish....the question is 'who will bail the cat'?i fear for the future of this country, with a generation of tribalistic idi*ots.
The 'high-way of corruption',was quickly awarded without due delligence and process, this is an indication that there is more to it than the eye sees...posterity will be the judge. We have been long enough in Nigeria to tell when politicians are upto no good.

The way they rushed the demolition was suspicious. So they didn't assess every necessary thing because they commenced demolition

Not that they did not access every necessary thing but the fact that they are wicked, greedy and irresponsible people in power...

I saw how their supporters kept on insulting Paul of Landmark saying he did not get approval from FG to put his investment there..

I just said to myself, these people don't know who Paul is, when you talk of due diligence, Paul is a hard liner on that on every business investment, only if they watched Lion's den episodes when it aired....

The questions they will not ask themselves are

1. Did DSTV also not get approval for putting their investment on the same path FG is now clamining, or did DSTV not do due diligence before investing millions of dollars on the same path?

2. Did MTN,Glo, Airtel and co not get approval from the FG or did they not also do due diligence before passing their under sea cables on the same route the FG today is claiming, so would they sink hundreds of millions of dollars underground through the sea going through the same path without due diligence and approval?

When we tell them that the whole coastal road projects looks so shady and suspicious which is not even top on Nigeria's priority for the amount being spent as at now, they begin to insult and abuse.

Is this how they want woo foreign investors?

Agreement flip flopping and policy flip flopping, shame on Tinubu and all his supporters
