CheapHomes1:Feel good projects are status project, they are important yes but not needed They are wants not basics needs Cocoa house, niger bridge, rail, They are good if u use revenue to build them... But borrowing to build them makes no sense |

MEEVEET:Who says? So rail transportation has no benefit to the economy? Do you know the following: Rail enhances transportation and trade opportunities - Infrastructure development - Job creation - Industrialization - Regional development - It has less interruption on its route - It is beneficial to agriculture transportation - It is beneficial to the mining industry - For tourism, it makes great to see urban and rural areas, beauty and nature - It is beneficial in the manufacturing industry How else can African nations finance rail transportation, especially in the face of opening the transport sector? It is by loans. Do they make profit? Yes, but maybe not too much. Why are loans not repaid? Ask your leaders to stop stealing public funds. |

tunjijones:Those countries built them with revenue... You can't borrow yo subsidies na that's recipe for inflation... In fact thats what brought us here It's not bad to build rail for your people n even make it free of charge... But if you borrow to do it then you are foolish |
| Re: Abuja-bound Train Derails In Jere, Kaduna State (Photos) by MEEVEET: 3:06pm On May 26, 2024 |
CheapHomes1:It's a feel good projects because it can't generate any net revenue If government stop funding it.. It fails |

tunjijones:I am very sorry for dabbling into your discussion. We have argued the business plan of the railway project severally few years back. The Chinese and Federal government never told us transportation by rail is going to be subsidized. In fact, Payback period and Rate of Return were calculated. I cried for 8 years on Lagos to Ibadan (Moniya) railway. Finally, the person assumed must be an NRC man on Social Media agreed with me. He said Inland Terminals and Dry Port would use them to move Cargoes. If FG want to subsidize transportation, road transportation should also be included. Over 90% of people travelling between Lagos and Ibadan use roads. Those using trains are not up to 5%. The railway projects were conceptualized based on business plan. Just like the Lagos Light Rail Project. Few weeks ago, LAMATA approached some investors on the extension from Mile 2 to Okoko. We were told about daily turnout of the Mile2 to CMS route and monthly turnout. Expected daily and monthly turnout of the Mile2 to Okoko, Capex, Opex, etc. The investors confidence is high not because of government subsidy but based on the feasibility of the project. |

ElevationD:Africans finance rail by loan reason Africans are poor If your revenue is higher than Recurrent expenditure and debt servicing... By all means build rail, skyscraper and the rest But your revenue can't even service yout debt and you think it makes sense increasing debt servicing for something that won't increase revenue? |
| Re: Abuja-bound Train Derails In Jere, Kaduna State (Photos) by ElevationD: 3:15pm On May 26, 2024 |
MEEVEET:Should your country remain underdeveloped because your revenue cannot match your debt servicing? With all the resources available in African countries, why do they borrow? And by the way, the American are the world’s heaviest borrowers, do you know? What is wrong with borrowing to fund critical infrastructures like railway that open up whole communities and promote trade please? |
| Re: Abuja-bound Train Derails In Jere, Kaduna State (Photos) by ElevationD: 3:18pm On May 26, 2024 |
MEEVEET:Again, do you not that making it free of charge for a short while could be designed to encourage citizens to use rail transportation? And who says it is cheap in the first place? Have you travelled by train in Lagos? |
| Re: Abuja-bound Train Derails In Jere, Kaduna State (Photos) by MEEVEET: 3:22pm On May 26, 2024 |
ElevationD:Cheap or not is not how much u pay But revenue to operating costs Citizens would pay for trains if it's worth it simple You are not even getting my point rail is not bad it's very good Just like a company building cooperatf office is not bad But using loan to build it when the country or business is struggling is the Koko Don't know what else u want me to say to u |

ElevationD:Why don't you borrow money to buy your dream car? America has more debt yes but lower debt to revenue ratio Yes poor countries should focuse on building their revenues to get larger then they can invest in infrastructure |

MEEVEET:False building with loan is the best course of action. I change you show me any country that completely built railway without loans. Except in few cases (Japan) show me any country where a private entity engage in rail construction without government support and bailout. |

MEEVEET:You have no ideal. Abuja-Kaduna-kano is the busiest route in the North both passengers and cargo, no other come close, hence this rail is not a waste its just not maximized. |

MEEVEET:Though most of the projects are executed because of selfish interest coz of corruption is high in Naija but not all projects executed by government should be because of monetary gain some are just to make life better for the people. Government don't make any profit on some projects in fact they even subsidize some just to make life easier. |
| Re: Abuja-bound Train Derails In Jere, Kaduna State (Photos) by MEEVEET: 3:31pm On May 26, 2024 |
Xpol:Question is does it make sense to borrow and build a project you would subsidize when you are already struggling paying old debt |
| Re: Abuja-bound Train Derails In Jere, Kaduna State (Photos) by Simeonjoe1: 3:31pm On May 26, 2024 |
nairalanda1:You don't lose money by building rails, either passenger or cargo, the effect of rail is not in the direct ROI or annual profits but its greater contribution to the economy, its improve productivity, standard of living, tourism, industrialization, connectivity etc. This itself add billions to the economy far more than what a 100× a profit would. |

Government don't make any profit on some projects in fact they even subsidize some just to make life easier. For example Government can borrow money to equip the health facilities and still provide free health for the masses. |

Simeonjoe1:It seems you guys have problems understanding English 1) Nigeria revenue now cant when pay the interest for the loans we have taken in the past.... And you think the best thing to do is to increase the interest in loan without increasing revenue? Jezzz can't you guys think? |
