I hope the supreme court will not delay judgement on this issue for years, they should be able to round up this case in 5-6 month.

If we will wait for years before the Supreme Court will give judgement, then this is a waste of time because the lawmakers are presently looking into this issue

In addition to the listed prayers of the FG, SIEC should be scraped and LGA's elections should henceforth be conducted by INEC.

Kudos to the FG on this. This move will undoubtedly lead to rural development and keep the lackadaisical Chairmen and Councillors on their toes.

Well, this is quite commendable. Although I am still of the opinion that the issue of local government should be expunged from our constitution, let the states decide which system of local administration that fits them (through legislative process, of course)

Brilliant from the AGF! These governors have made local government chairmen their SIDE CHICKS for years stifling development at the local level, but this has got to stop.

They now have more money available thanks to the subsidy removal.

If you're not fixated on only interpreting everything to be bad news, you'd have known that PMB started this fight against the Governors and at the time where the hand of Jacob was still a Governor.

Your problem isn't the financial liberation of the LGAs but the illusion of taking everything to be dirty politics.

Your conclusion below is spot on also as some of the immediate and obvious benefits of better funding and autonomy for local Governments.

For example, more Nigerians, even on NL, will now call oit their known LG Chairman for residential and internal roads as we do Governors for States main roads/highways and the FG for roads under their jurisdiction.

Truth is that Governors have made Nigerians forget that the local Government exist as an independent tier of governance.

This is brilliant from President Tinubu to be honest. I have personally always advocated local government empowerment as crucial for the fast-paced development of Nigeria since we all live in one local government or the other.

Yet I did not expect the FG to charge Governors to Court to enforce the concept of LG full and independent empowerment.

Absence of local govt autonomy and govs usurping local govt allocations have increased poverty in areas outside the state capital as governors pocketed much of the local govt allocations and plough the remainder in building vainglory projects like boulevards in the state capital. Some states that began with many urban centres have been reduced to one city state. Imo for example.
