If he didn't appeal and he gets a longer jail sentencing in July 11, he may not be ratified at the Republican convention that comes up on July 15. He's still a presumptive candidate until the convention.

Everything is political calculation. They purposely announce a sentencing date that comes before the Republican convention with the expectation that the Republican party would field another candidate.

It is expected that an appeal will follow even up to the Supreme court which will most likely be prolonged beyond the general election in November.

He can even vote for himself except he is behind bar before the election which is very unlikely. Ordinary notice of appeal will give him enough time to run for the election even before the appeal itself. So from all angles, Trump will weather the storm.

That's why I said it's all politically calculated. They have about a month and half to observe. If they see he's gaining ground despite the conviction, they could add jail sentencing to bottle it up.
