There are a lot of things that the Labor unions should be fighting for.
400k+ might sound very unreasonable, but pegging the minimum wage as a percentage of the monthly salary of those never do wells in the national assembly is a welcome development.
Let the minimum wage never be less than 10% of the total monthly package of any elected public office holder, that's when I'll know Labor unions know what they're doing.
It's either the government bring down their bogus pay, or they increase worker's pay as requested. It's criminal for someone to be earning 18m monthly for a job most Nigerians can do.
If the government wants the people to bear with the effects of their policies and reason with them, they must be seen to be doing the same thing. This is the right time to cut down all government expenses to the nearest minimum.
I repeat, minimum wage should not just be a meaningless number. It should be a percentage of the pay for the political class.

My take is that unless the political office holders adjust their emoluments to reflect the reality on ground, the economy will continue to bleed because inflation will mop up whatever increment is given.
There is no justification for any of them to earn more than a level 17 civil servant. As a matter of fact, they should earn no salary but allowances attached to level 17.
Only then will people who aspire to serve come forward.
Otherwise, minimum wage should be adjusted to reflect what politicians enjoy.. 500k!

If the business owner pays every staff just minimum wage, that would amount to N900k monthly and over N10m per annum...

To pay that salary, the business would either need to lay off 70% of its workforce (which might end up crippling operations if it needs the workers) or significantly increase the price of its goods and services to meet up which in turn would negate whatever previous increase in salaries.

As much as an increase in salaries and wages is long overdue, it has to be sustainable, categorised, be done along with policies that significantly reduce cost of doing business, placement of all political office holders on minimum wage and tieing of income to assets and taxes.

150k and above anything less than that is impoverishing Nigerians the more.

This civil servants have relatives that look up to them not to talk of jobless friends. How will they cope with 100k or less

There is sufficent provision for that in the minimum wage act. For private businesses, the staff must be up to 25 for the act to be applicable.

Yes. And maybe I was been overly 'dramatic'. But there are businesses that employ over the stated number of staff but still have annual turnovers of less than N10m.

You also have companies with less than 25 staff but with annual turnovers of billions of naira p.a.

How do we reconcile these?

How do we stop big coporations from having more part time staff so as to dodge minimum wage payments despite having turnovers that can comfortably pay the minimum wage for over 200 workers?

100k for a start for FG workers

State workers -60/70K

Private institution or businesses can start from 50K.... Depending on how big the business or company is...

Private schools.... NCE teachers - 40k... BSc/Hbd- 60/70k.... Depending on the area... In a rural area, it must not be less than 30K, or let the proprietress enter class herself and teach.
