MEEVEET:If the governors decide to enforce compulsory education to tertiary level in their states do you think the problems you listed above would still exist? Charity begins at home, the foundation on which the country is operating is faulty, you cant start building a house from the roof. The local govt and state govt are the problems in reality. |

Mvnster:Thank you sir, let them be obsession over what is happening in the centre. Silly Atiku cannot stop his Governor appointing 200 special advisers but would raise hell when Tinubu makes any decision. |

psucc:Oga the point he raised is major.... Governance is not emotional willingness or Miracle .we Nigerians should talk much on the leaders that close to us than be emotional on who becomes the president. State and local government take major role in poverty alifiations and Human development in the rural areas. |

Mvnster:Excellent observations and comments. More autonomy, power and funding for the 774 local governments of Nigeria is the only way most Nigerians will ever see development. For example, we all complain against Tinubu about bad roads in our locality yet what we fail to grasp is that good roads will remain a wish forever if local government leaders are not genuinely empowered, and then held to account, to deliver quality residential/internal roads and make a difference at local Government level. FG will never usually get involved with road construction at State level let alone local Government level. Ditto many other essentials like healthcare etal. The 774 local government area, because it is where we all reside in, must be empowered by all means possible to be a far greater contributor to overcoming the problems of Nigerians where they live and work. Tinubu's and the FG's current court case against States 'imprisonment' of local governments corresponds with the conclusion and thinking of OP. This is why I rate Tinubu as an effective visionary who has no time for providing fish when he knows enduring solutions, that fosters the greatest progress and development, comes from teaching the populace to fish. Reform to the funding, roles and leadership of local governments of Nigeria is crucial because the LG is where we all live and therefore they need to be empowered and better-funded to directly address our needs. |

KnowAll:Not surprised. That is how it must be if one understands that effective delegation and diligent sharing of responsibilities is needed to get tiers of Nigerian governance working optimally to the benefit of Nigerians. It is the reason we had Federal, State and Local Government as tiers of Nigerian government before corruption, especially at State government level, reduced local governments into glorified and worthless toys of Governors. As for the Obidients, they are just insincere hacks. They never criticize because they want better for Nigeria. They do so to make Tinubu look bad because, in their shallow minds, that improves the chances of Obi becoming President. Dunces the lot of them. |

MEEVEET:Most nigerians dont know the role of govt and are not capable of/interested in holding govt officials accountable. If we had properly functioning local govts since independence in charge of hospitals, water supply, local electricity distribution, agriculture, street security, universities and polytechnics, the nation would have been far ahead than we are right now. These things are not rocket science, it only involves electing responsible commoners like you and I in the local offices. It is far easier to check the activities of the local man living next door to you than the one chilling in abuja. You cant be paying taxes to your next door neighbour for basic amenities and sit idle watching things go bad as they are now. Military govt did too much harm to this nation over the years, the earlier that is corrected the better for us all. More and more responsibilities should be shifted away from abuja and closer to your door step. |
