The Premier League will continue to use video assistant referees (VAR) next season after Wolves were the only club to vote in favour of scrapping it at Thursday's annual general meeting.

Wolves triggered a vote on the use of VAR in the 2024-25 season after formally submitting a resolution to the Premier League in May.

In order for VAR to be scrapped, 14 of the 20 Premier League clubs needed to vote in favour of doing so.

However, BBC Sport understands Wolves failed to gain support from other clubs in the top flight.

The Premier League has come under increasing pressure to modify VAR, which was introduced at the start of the 2019-20 season.

It was reaffirmed at the meeting that semi-automated offsides will be introduced at some point in the autumn, while the Premier League confirmed in-game VAR announcements will be put in place.

The in-game announcements, which were used during the 2023 women's World Cup, will see referees explain post-VAR decisions to supporters in stadiums.

Wetin dey worry this club....??only 1 out of 20 clubs. Voted against (VAR)?? This club must have relationships with african countries, like Nigeria............ They wanted the VAR to be scraped so that they will do anyhow..... Anyway i will not support MAN. U again..... From today my supporting club is "WOLVES" because they have Nigerian mentality...

VAR makes ball more interesting and errors free ,the waiting brews tension which translate to excitement if it's in ones favour .

Only losers that rely on bad judgement to win are against it .

VAR only Achilles heels is 2FA from referees that will see black but call it white .

VAR is for everyone’s benefit. About six years now, people finally realized it. I remember like yesterday when every idiot struggling with JAMB claimed “vAR wILl kILl tHe spOnTAnEIty oF tHe GAme.” Nobody cares today. It benefitted their teams in one case or the other.

Nothing is 100% but VAR has more merits than demerits. It has proven to be very helpful especially for offsides, Off the ball dangerous tackles/behaviours and goal line stuff
Just imagine losing out on a trophy due to human error.

People blame VAR instead of people in charge of var,the way they blame marriage instead of they themselves that messing around .

To me, the advantages of VAR far far outweigh disadvantages.

They should continuing correcting the officials in Manning the technology rather throw away babies with water.

Wolves didn't lose out, they needed to make statement and drag VAR to this level where it will need votes to survive and that was achieved. This was an insult to VAR for all the wrong calls supported by VAR and good calls destroyed by VAR interruptions during matches. This should be enough to make Premier League officials perform more professionally next season.
