MisterBanny:
Good morning and happy weekend to you all.

Let me go straight to the point and not bore you with too many tales.
I live in a room self-con, been living here for almost three years. The issue now is, my Landlord had sold the entire house just in April this year. He introduced myself and two other co-tenants to the new landlord the day the building was completely sold and transfer of ownership was finalized.
My Rent expired at the end of April, same month the house was sold. The new landlord has been disturbing me to pay my rent ever since the day we first met and the old landlord informed him of the expiration of my Rent. The new landlord increased the Rent from 80k to 150k, but we had to appeal to him to cut it down until we were able to reach a concensus of 120k. This house has no fence, no water and even light. Robbers Burgle into our rooms to steal from time to time.
Towards the end of April, I told him to give me till July to renew my rent, he agreed. Then after two weeks he sent me a text dat he wouldn't be able to wait till July and that I must pay at the end of May. I was shocked to see such text after our earlier discussion. I pleaded again, and he gave me till 15th of June. I told him it can't be possible. I'm a salary earner & I'm into contribution at work. In July, I will be able to pay him. But he still insisting it's June.
My question now is, Does he have the right to forcefully evict me within this period? If it were my old landlord, I wouldn't be worried. But now that there's a change of ownership, what happens in this instance?
Your inputs are potentially appreciated.
Is it possible for you to swap with whoever is collecting the contribution this June ending? If it is possible, pls do and avoid unnecessary drama. My 2cents!

You are funny grin grin
You want to know if your landlord has the legal right to evict you from his house were you are an illegal occupant?

At the expiration of your rent you are no longer a tenant in that house.

You evicted yourself on May 7, 2024. The law gives the landlord right to evict you after 7 days into your new rental period, if you fail to renew.
Re: Happy weekend by Kanixt(m): 4:46pm On Jun 08, 2024
Yes, the owner of the house has the right to evict you out, pending when he wants it and how the law allowed him to do.

But with the eviction notice will take 6 months before it can be enforced.

Been observed eviction notice and enforcing same are different

New landlord, new laws. Source for another way to pay your new landlord even if it's half of the money. Most landlords are not smiling these days because things are hard. Getting another house will even cost you more.

The landlord doesn't have personal laws, we are all guided by one Law.

.

The old landlord is incommunicado Sir. I am just fed up with life. The hardship is too much
Re: Happy weekend by oz4real83(m):
Your new landlord made an investment for which he hasn't received even the smallest return, you can only plead with him and don't try to claim any form of rights, as long as you are the one owing him, he has a right to evict you if you haven't paid him, this is June and your old rent expired since April, the country is hard but the new landlord has been patient, some landlords would have illegally evicted you after buying the house even when your rent was still active and force you to incur unnecessary expenses if you take legal action against him.

It's his property now, so technically he can evict you. If you wish to continue in the house, you can rally friends and family to raise money, even if it's half so you can atleast give the new landlord something..
Better days ahead for you.
