Chairperson, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has said human trafffickers are worse than drug barons.

In a post on X on Saturday, Mrs Dabiri-Erewa condemned human traffickers, advocating for them to be “named and shamed.”

“Honestly. The traffickers need to be named and shamed,” Mrs Dabiri-Erewa said on Saturday, a day after she posted a video of some Nigerian girls trafficked to Ghana for prostitution.


She stated, “They (Human traffickers) are worse than drug barons!! And as long as they are walking about freely, innocent young children will continue to be trafficked!”

One of her followers on X, @idealist90, disagreed with her, saying “Traffickers are not worse than drug barons. Both are not different. If you support a drug baron, you are not different from a trafficker himself.”

Mrs Dabiri-Erewa serves in the government of President Bola Tinubu, embroiled in a cocaine trafficking scandal that saw him forfeit $460,000 to the U.S. government in the 90s.

Mr Tinubu’s drug trafficking case re-emerged shortly after he declared interest to contest the presidency in 2022.

In 2022, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois released fresh documents on Mr Tinubu’s encounter with American authorities over allegations of narcotics trafficking and money laundering.

Despite most of you already know the context of her anger, some of you are worst than human..

I agree to some extent, although both are bad. Drugs are just substances some governments consider(ed) bad and made illegal. There are also a lot of politics around drugs and what substance should be considered as drugs in every part of the world. Marijuana is considered as drug in many states in America today. Many politicians in the US are currently pushing to remove marijuana from the list of harmful drugs, after thousands of people have been jailed for taking or trafficking marijuana. In fact, Marijuana is no longer a drug in California.

A substance that is considered a drug today, may be considered as okay tomorrow. In other words, the concept of drugs may change over time.

Human trafficking is purely human exploitation. Deceiving underage girls into prostitution and making money from such is horrible. Shipping out underage girls for sex-slavery is beyond appalling. I would not care about a mature woman making money from prostitution, but having a man/woman make money from another woman's body is something else.

NB. I would want you to reason my point logically and not from a myopic political lens.

my comment transcends this current post of hers to all her previous statements, as for the current post, you can see how the journalists equated it to Bola Tinubu's drug related case abroad, adding that that statement was extremely unnecessary and reckless of her, she wanted to drag the Igbos for drug pushing as she has always done in the past but ended up dragging the president into it. A very reckless mistake caused by her unbridled tribalism.

Most of the girls are not forced. They are promised what is different from what they will meet.

You think it is easy to traffic humans without their involvement?

That is kidnapping not trafficking. Trafficking is an advanced fraud. You get the person to believe in a better option which make the person go with you. When the person gets there you take away their means of returning or running.
