If FG know that they can not pay 60k which is not up to anything than they should reduce price of everything including house rent, food stuffs transportation, school fees, electricity, fuel, medical bills to the level that 30k minimum wage can afford,if they can not do this then 490k we stand as minimum wage,LB should stand there ground and let those thiefs know that we not fools again |

prinsam30:I'm not defending any Governor. I'm not related or even know any Governor personally. I'm defending common sense and reality. The states can't afford to pay so what's the point of agreeing to something that you can't fulfill. Are rhe labor leaders themselves not living above the average Nigerian. The reality in any part of the world is that your political leaders will live above the means of average citizens. Nigerian political class needs to cut down on their expenses but do expect them to reduce salaries to that of the average workforce. |

adenigga:Simple each state government should take the fight to their respective states, they cannot pay but the can see enough to loot, if you cant pay they should be forced to resign the federal government should back the people on this. |

Slurity:Is Edo the only state having election this year? Ondo is also having election this year why did Ondo state governor not increase minimum wage? When Obaseki in 2022 increased minimum wage from 30 000 to 40,000 where were you? Edo has always had a culture of paying the highest minimum wage in the country. 2016 comrade Adams Oshiomhole about to leave office too increased minimum wage from 18,000 to 25,000 and Obaseki continued to pay. It not a new thing in Edo State. |

Also talk about the PHCN traffic reduction, solution to exchange rate. If this is not treated, the increase in the minimum wage will not be felt. |

I'm loving these responses... It is obvious we have allowed some overconfident, unfeeling and callous comments from the executives of this nation. They have repeatedly shown no capacity for leadership both in action and in words. They continue to feel confident that the masses can do nothing to them and it beefs their confidence. |

In a sane country that's exactly what they are supposed to do if they can't pay but here in nigeria that's practically impossible. |

bentenny:If it's that easy to remove resource control as you've make it to appear, Former President Jonathan from the SS would have done it within the 6 years he graced the seat. We know it's this same governors that won't let the local governments breathe, but we should all blame the president for everything. Continue to wait until full resource control before you hold your governors accountable. I've never seen seen where someone not faithful with little will be able to do so if given more. They've been collecting more allocations since last year, let them at least show us what they've been doing with it. |

DeOTR:This is the problem I have with your likes! You react without thinking thereby spewing rubbish! So because GEJ who was from the SS didn't do much to ensure resource control hence other president s won't do the same? This is the kind of myopic mentality that will keep making our leaders take us for a ride! Don't you know that when there is resource control, the pressure will leave the president and everyone will focus on their governors forcing them to be accountable to their people! With the spotlight positioned on the governors, they will be condemned to not only be accountable for the humongous funds from their natural resources but will ensure that they work hard enough to justify their stay or they get butted out! As long as we keep practicing this terrible feeding bottle policy of FG sharing faac allocations to states and LGAs,the governors will not be accountable and FG or president will keep getting the blame! |

bentenny:Please try to make sense when quoting me. Resource control or not, it shouldn't stop the governors from being responsible and alive to their duties. I pointed out how these governors are hiding behind our tendencies to blame only the federal government, you said we should go full resource control. Maybe you've not seen the case filed by the federal government against State government as regards local government autonomy and guess who are the ones against it. Just wait until we achieve full resource control first before you know your rights in your state. |
| Re: Minimum Wage: Resign If You Can’t Pay, Labour Tackles Governors by bentenny(m): 12:50pm On Jun 12, 2024 |
DeOTR:My sense is intact but I doubt where you kept yours! You are still making the same mistake you made before which is not reading before reacting! Whether the governors are using what is available to them in terms of faac allocation is not even the issue! Of course they will definitely hide under the FG because it's easy not to be accountable when you are collecting money than when you are making it yourself through hard work! A man who begs and collects funds from a relative will likely not tell his wife how much he collected but if she knows he is working in a popular company that pays well or he has a blossoming business that is doing well,he will definitely be accountable and not hold back any funds made! My argument is as long as they keep collecting faac allocations, they will not be accountable to their people! However, with states being in control of their own resources, governors will realize that there is no more funds to share from at the centre and will be determined to utilize the resources now made available to them! This will make the usually lazy governors to start being hardworking, innovative and accountable! For instance, look at states like zamfara, niger, kogi etc that is rich in gold but those States cannot mine Gold for the benefit of its citizens because that natural resource is on the exclusive list...in other words,it's under the control of the FG! What about nassarawa state that is rich in lithium? Only the FG has the sole right to mine instead of the states..... Until resource control is taken out of the exclusive list, governors will keep hiding under the blanket of getting funds from FG which they will claim is not good enough! The control of resources by the states will not only benefit to the citizens,it's inevitable whether you like it or not! |
