happney65:It's a work in progress because many states are already taking steps to achieve that. We have seen on Nairaland that Ekiti, Oyo and Imo States have already launched their state power regulatory commissions. The major issue here is that power is capital intensive. That's why many states will end up buying from those that have it in excess. This national grid thing is no longer working. |

happney65:who are the "we" that had any argument about any sector experiencing "real privatisation"? you still have not answered my questions: do you think investors is a magic wand? is that how things are done? which investors have any of the 36 state governors brought so far? like I asked, if governors are so dull to the point that they cant provide things as basic as good education, good health, good roads, water, jobs and other social services, how then are you expecting them to "start generating, transmitting and distributing it's own power and fixing prices good enough for the distribution companies and also for the customers"? |

yommen:Do you need to be lectured that 5,000 megawatts is not enough for 200 million people? If you believe that MAJORITY are benefiting from paltry 5,000 megawatts, then you know absolutely nothing about power. |

happney65:When will some of you stop this needless show of ignorance and sadism? Is is not what you demanded in bold State governments are now trying to provide? Read the article slowly and assimilate what is written to note you have commented ignorantly and out of turn. If you had read the article as an open-minded and progressive person you will note Governors even address your point about fairness of pricing and power supply (see excerpt below) meaning you should spend more time trying to be an informed, progressive and optimistic critic instead of someone always looking to contribute negativity alone. Sorry if my words seem harsh but it is because I think some of us, regardless of misrule in the past, can be more useful in the quest to make Nigeria a developed nation by choosing to be active participants of the change process as optimistic, objective, informed and patriotic Nigerians always willing to give positive change a chance. You call what is written "story" but your ignorant and misguided comments only validate the saying "if you wish to hide something from a black man, hide it in a book". The one thing any progressive Nigerian will discern from the article is the joyous observation that Governors are now taking full responsibility for power supply and proactively personalised tariff regime to match the peculiarities and needs of their States. They are now ready to abandon the "one Nigeria" failure most Governors and leaders hid behind since 1999. We too, the electorate, should then gear up, in our respective States, to be fully ready to hold them to account instead of talking as if all we are good for is to simply be bystanders only available to contribute negative and ignorant comments.. Commenting on winding down electricity subsidies, the NGF said, “Electricity is a commodity and a product that must be paid for by consumers. The states believe that electricity subsidies and other forms of financial interventions in the power sector by the Federal Government over the last 15 years have been inefficient and ineffective so far. |

happney65:God bless you. Majority of them are just sadists who want Nigeria to fail and must therefore badmouth every posivtive development for our nation. There are contributory ways to criticise positive development so they qork even more productively and efficiently. The car, mobil phones, TV and may other sophisticated utility tools of man today were fairly crude things at inception yet had to be improved by positive and progressive thinkers to be what they are today. Inagine if the sadist of of the past, the equivalent of Nigerian sadists and enemies of progress today, write off many of what we enjoy using today by insisting they were worthless? The irony is that what we all asked foe befoee some are now doing there best to find fault with and be negative about showing that a lot of Nigerians are just wicked, evil and damaged goods. The power sector is now fully deregulated. We have asked Governors to be given more autonomy for decades now so they can take charge more and devise unique power solutions for their respective States. That prayer has come to pass and the moment has arrived with Governors now defiantly accepting the challenge. The demand of Governors for independence for setting their own tariffs very good as no Governor will have anywhere to hide. I believe the next 2 years will be spectacularly positive for Nigeria. It is left to optimistic and well-meaning Nigerians to position themselves to benefit from the positive and massive changes we will be seeing across every facet of Nigerian life shortly. The sadists and enemies of progress can die in frustration. |

ruffhandu:That is not true and this is a mistake, ignorant of our reality, some of you keep making. Without belabouring the consideration of how we got here, the reality is that power supply is very expensive and Nigeria can simply not afford 24/7 power supply for every Nigerian even if our national income tripled. This is because decades of under-investments in the power sector has now left Nigeria with a moribund, highly inadequate and archaic power sector. One key solution is to increase tariffs and reinvest profit made in enhancing power generation, transmission and distribution till we can scale up enough to reach 24/7 supply eventually. Because we alll have different power needs and pockets, it is only fair and logical to have higher tariffs for those willing to pay more for more hours of power per day since it is impossible to give all Nigerians 24/7 power supply as many ignorantly believe. If we do this Judiciously for 5 to 8 years, and Nigeria's economy continues to improve meaning more money to invest in power supply, we will eventually move towards 24/7 power supply for everyone and one uniform tariffs for all Nigerians for residentials users while businesses will always have to pay more per their far heavier use and the reality they use government-supllied electricity for profit-generation.. |

maasoap:Bro reason it. They are signing their own persecution and death warrants if that is their intention. With every State setting their own tariffs, after subsidy removal, there will be no excuse for States who have set tariff regime, that we believe is predicted on solid feasibility studies, only for them to fail to improve power supply significantly. To me heavily subsidising power means Nigerians can forget 24/7 power until some miracle makes our nation auddenly and stupendously rich. Subsidy on power must go. No doubt about that. The only issue is that it should not be too punitive on Nigerians. Subsidy should be reduced gradually and tapered downwards , as power supply improves, till it is zero at the point majority of Nigerians are enjoying 24/7 power. |

Great100000:States should build their own power generation plants and distribute to consumers ensuring such distribution are put through prepaid meters on each building or structure as the case maybe. Electricity tariifs can be fixed at prices that are reasonable and economical but it should encourage consumers to use light. There is no need for subsidy on such for it will only be an avenue for someone to steal government monies. |

WizardOfNG:What are we going to do to them if they take charge of DISCOs, remove all the subsidies but still fail to provide at least 20 hours a day of power supply? To me heavily subsidising power means Nigerians can forget 24/7 power until some miracle makes our nation auddenly and stupendously rich. What are the benefits that Nigerians are getting from their Govts at all levels? The politicians that are paying themselves millions of naira every month legitimately and illegitimately! The country is hard as it is, thanks to corruption and clueless successive leaders. Imagine an oil producing nation that can't give fuels at highly subsidised prices to her already impoverished citizens! We're not stupendously rich but we could budget 180 million for one solar powered streetlight or borehole? The only issue is that it should not be too punitive on Nigerians. Subsidy should be reduced gradually and tapered downwards , as power supply improves, till it is zero at the point majority of Nigerians are enjoying 24/7 power. It is already. N1000 now gives me 4 units! Thank God I took advantage of when we were reverted back to Band B and recharged 250units |

SocialJustice:What if the sensors is wrong, since sensors reading over population now is a death warrant. Now anybody who wants to genocide a population can accuse them of overpopulation by ,bv moving everybody to the city while the country side is empty, full of bandits who ensure everybody go to city. Dont wish genocide on your own people cause you think you have an idea what world you live in. For one thing you probably dont know that all the people in southern Africa that you call overplanted dirty peasants are the Europeans, Israelites, Scottish , French , Dutch you name . The Irish are now called Jamaican , the Cameron's of Scotland are now called Cameroonians . And there is enough evidence from ancient maps which they dont teach in school to show that its very highly likely that the land mass of the real world is endless just as the sky is endless , and there are more continents beyond the poles polar regions . That is why google map shows the world ending abruptly at the poles as if we live on a table , but so above so below, the land is endless like the sky. Dont wish genocide on your people cause of lies from the enemies of your race. Google the ancient Japanese map showing 118 continents in the world. And as of 1918 the last black Japanese were being wiped out , Nagasaki in Japan means the land of dark skin people, thats why your enemies call you overpopulated nigger . Have you counted the sensors yourself to know the result is true.............. |
