A friend of mine is hoping to get an appointment as either SSA or Special Adviser to the governor of his state soon. We had an argument about remuneration. Who knows the average salary of a special adviser or SSA. He said SSA is around 600k and Special Adviser is 800k but I told him it can't be upto, it should be around 300k and 500k respectively. I told him to consider very well before leaving his job, atleast he earns over 300k as salary.

We will like to hear from people with Information. Also is there official vehicle for SSA and Special Advisers?

Youare right, it is just about 300k to 500k. But it comes with lot of opportunities to network politically.

Which of the states are we looking at?

120k-150k in Benue

Before leaving the known for the unknown, let him realise he's not assured of job security; might find himself in a criminal scandal considering the miasma that has become Nigerian politics, will eventually retire without remuneration after four years or eight years at the highest.

As a paperweight political appointee, he might eventually be used as cannon fodder, political currency, a bargaining chip between the elephants at the top floors of the political tower.

Not to talk of the leverage, bribery and other corrupt enticements that would be dangled before him to beat him into shape and make him fall in line.

He will proceed to recruit 100,000 senior special advisers (SSA )and he peg their salary at 50,000 Naira each per month.

they must deliver their respective electoral wards to wike in the then upcoming election.

It depends on the state. In some states, even commissioners or special advisers don't even earn up to 500k. A friend's younger brother is an SSA in XYZ state and his salary is 100k.

it's more of the exposure and potential opportunities than the direct salaries

even our senators we claim are earning 30m monthly we may be surprised when we see what they are earning, it may be far less but what this guys take home off the official record is the real deal (or issue, depending on which side of the divide you are )

In kogi state, special Advisers earn about 700k, this is what i know, the person is also in this forum.

NB: What they actually gets in contracts and others is way above that amount...
