The NPFL has fined Enyimba FC and club players following their part in the abandonment of the top of the table fixture against Rangers in Enugu on Sunday.

Enyimba players staged a walkout after a stoppage time penalty was awarded to host Rangers with the score 0-0 infront of a packed-to-the-rafters Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium.

Some of the Enyimba players harassed the match officials and the incident led to a pitch invasion by fans taking advantage of the loose security arrangement.

In a letter to Enyimba dated June 10, 2024 and signed by the NPFL Chief operating officer, Davidson Owumi, the league body listed several breaches of its rules by Enyimba, which brought the game into disrepute. The NPFL said Enyimba violated Rule c9 by failing o ensure proper conduct of their players, officials and supporters. The club was also cited for breaching Rule B6.23, which is disrupting the transmission of a live broadcast.

Very good judgement I must say. I have been afraid that Enyimba may have their points deducted.

As a Rangers fan, I want to see Enyimba also in continental champions League. 🙏🙏

Very good decision. You don't have to be a sore loser. That penalty decision from the referee is 100% accurate.

Well deserved. Those Enyimba players should be given hefty bans too to serve as a detriment. You don't abandon a match or attack match officials just because you feel they made wrong calls.

Good…Igbos are leading the rebranding of Nigerian league. The pictures I saw yesterday of Enugu rangers v enyimba I thought it was premiership league for real. The stadium was over filled and the pitch looking very lush coupled with the infrastructures and the quality of the jerseys both teams were wearing
