An interesting thread. It shows the different names that folks in Nigeria call this delicacy.

Surprisingly, after doing a quick scan of the feedbacks from pages 1 to 6, I noticed that the Yoruba folks have up to five names for this winged insect delicacy depending on regional Yoruba dialects, but Esunsun is the most prevalent name. Hausas call it Shinge, Ibos call it Aku with other suffix variants added to Aku, Ebiras call it Ivo, Bini-Edos call it Edon, Esan-Edos call it Irikhun, Tivs call it Hur, Akwa Ibom and Cross Rivers folks call it Ndube.

They are called 'shinge' or 'sunge,' pretty much delicious! It has been a long time I ate them.

I have been looking for someone to call it by this name. We call it it MINIMINI anyway. I nevwr tasted it. Couldn't bring myself to mouthing insects. But my elder sis and cousins could sell their wrappers to taste it

One thing I hate about Africans is, we know how to consume, we have no clue how to produce. This thing na curse we get from time. When our forefathers ate birds, rats and snakes, no one thought up the idea of rearing the creatures. I’ve heard and read of these seasonal termites since I was a little boy. It’s 2024 and nobody has created a means to farm them despite the testament of their delicious taste. God (if real) really build oyibos differently.

I'm gonn go miles to find this tomorrow unfailingly.

While growing up, me and my siblings went to church one Rainy Evening and these Esunsun, big and fat came out in there number.
We saw people catching them in a bow of water; some people were even eating them raw!
That was how we also decided to join in the hunt. We caught a bowful and took them home to fry with oil and better pepper!
Time to eat, my sister suggested I taste it.
I was like, "Me taste insect?!" "No na, I only join you people in the fun to catch it not eat."
That was how we kept passing the plate around o - who will be the first to die!
Up till today, I regret not tasting this delicacy that day because that was the only chance I have to eat them!
