Anikulapo should be alive singing today
Fela would have insulted the whole 200 or so million citizens in new songs....
Because all he has been crying about since 70s are still there and even worse.

Someone without a decayed system of education pointed out the error without sounding like you. I admitted my mistake and have corrected the spelling.
1: the problem with you people is that you feel a need to talk for talking sake, a need to criticize for sake of it. A country is only as good as its people.

2: while a change in the national anthem does not change the price of tomatoes. Those of us who were around in the days of the old anthem know that the view of the country from the perspective of the citizens then is different from the way citizens see the country today. It may be coincidental but the fortunes of the country started declining a few years after the change of the national anthem (declines are not felt immediately just as effects of progressive steps are not felt immediately. The new anthem was introduced in 1978, the economic challenges that paved the way for the coup that brought in Buhari started in 1982 and we’ve been going down hill for the last 40 yrs whichever govt had been in power.

I am not saying it is because of the national anthem but every house is built on a foundation and the national anthem is part of the foundations of a country. I have never liked “arise o compatriots”, it never resonated with me. I never felt any call to arms or pride singing it the way I felt singing “Nigeria we hail thee” as a child.

There is no country that you look to as a beacon of progress and development that does not have a national anthem that galvanizes the people. Arise o compatriots did not stir the soul and may be a subconscious reason or coincidental but we have gone downhill since it’s introduction. Yes it will not change the price of tomatoes. But if it is not a big deal, why make a big deal of it…what do you care?

Personally I think it does.

Your focus has swiftly shifted from my grammatical error and my decayed system of education to the justification of the newly-adopted anthem. Does your inconsistency mean you are exempted from the decayed system of education?

So they can analyze lines and grammar in an old poem

But they need the Supreme Court to explain the meaning of "AND 25% in the FCT" ?

Your initial post was about the national anthem. You corrected the errors and I dropped the matter. You are the one who now seems to want to focus on the language rather than the issue.

Some of us know when to lay a matter to rest, focus on the issues and not flog a dead horse. It is not a battle of egos or a matter of “I win” or having the last word. That mindset is part of the problem we face as a people.
Re: Akpabio Identifies Errors In New National Anthem by ThatFairGuy1: 9:59am On Jun 12, 2024
No labour party, PDP members in the house right?
You that thing, you have it.

That's not APC House of assembly, it's Nigerian House of assembly with members from all parties, every nooks and cranny of the country

Secondly, the coastal wasn't abandoned, work is ongoing you are the one who is living in the cave
immortalcrown:
The adoption of the new national anthem remains a misplaced priority even after the correction.

APC is fond of executing plans before evaluation of the plans. This is why the adoption of the national anthem took place before the anthem is proofread. This is the same way some beaches were demolished before coaster railway project was abandoned because of undersea cables.

Before the grammatical errors were corrected, you already understood the comment but didn't defend the adoption of the anthem. You are clearly inconsistent. You started by focusing on the language without making any reference to the topic of the thread. You have now shifted your focus to the anthem.

How dare you call your national anthem fucking? Respect those in authority. If you don't like the new anthem, wait till you become president then you can change it.

NOA Replies Akpabio, saying NOA's version is authentic.

Lol. Naija na cruise.
Is Isa Onilu okay at all?

They said you should change:

"Nigeria May Be Blessed" to

"Nigeria Shall Be Blessed"

and he's still arguing.
Re: Akpabio Identifies Errors In New National Anthem by bitbillionaire: 11:13am On Jun 12, 2024
'Shall' is better sir.

It can't be 'Must' unless you want to force God or man to bless Nigeria at gun point!

Senator Akpabio's explanation that 'shall' indicates 'compulsion' is not totally correct either. In my own little knowledge of English that 'shall' is a promise; an assurance that Nigeria will definitely be blessed. It is 'prophetic'. So shall is the right word to use in that context.

sylve11:
If it's compulsive, then NOA ought to have used "Must", but because NOA as a body is far far intelligent, they used "Shall" which indicates an ambiguous usage.

NOA even used "May" to tell you that nothing certain and not even your prayers must be answered.

Nice one @NOA.

This Akpabio dey make me vex these days sha. angry cool
