The heroes of democracy are those who fight for democracy because of what democracy represents and not for personal interest.

Late MKO Abiola fought for democracy but he was also a politician who had something personal to benefit from the fight, and that was power. His allies and supporters fought for democracy too but that was primarily in support of their candidate. Most non MKO supporters were either passive supporters of NADECO or simply aloof.

It's my opinion that Prof Humphrey Nwosu was the real hero of democracy. He was the INEC chairman who had nothing to gain by doing the right thing except the defence of democracy. He conducted the election deemed the freest and fairest in the country's history and suffered army brutality in defence of the democracy and it's institution. If he had done the biddings of the regime, he would have been richer and the military would have continued the oppression.

He made the real sacrifice but today no one remembers him. Nigerians have made it rewarding to do the wrong thing by not celebrating right people.

Why would inec chairmen make sacrifices for the people and democracy since no one would honour them in future?

Cowards were the ones who allowed MKO to die and still watched the same people murder his wife while carrying green leaves all over Lagos, causing misery on innocent people. It took the fallout of Saro wiwa's execution to pressure the military out and restore democracy. NADECO achieved nothing. The same cowards started save nigeria group whose members where only dancing in the streets of Abuja until Dora Akunyili bravely said the truth that made them to hand power to Jonathan. Those are the real cowards.

being meticulous is also part part of fairness and democracy. Humphrey Nwosu cannot announce final result when results aren't concluded.
