You forgot to mention that Professor Omoruyi was shot several times as a result and survived with nearly 30 bullet wounds.

The supposed democracy we earnestly yearned for has become a source of sorrows for many Nigerians.
Those that truly fought for democracy and died will be turning in their graves at the mess the criminal elites have made of the nation.

Interesting
Although if anyone looks at some of those major actors in fight for survival and our democracy after 25yrs, one can't but wonder what all the fuss was about democracy. Most of those who were in the civilian govt towards June 12 and afterwards after played one ignoble role or the other since 1999. It makes it look like the fight for democracy had personal reasons underneath than any higher ideal or principle for nation building

The North are almost always on the wrong side of Nigeria democracy

Why did babangida truncate the election, yet people are not calling him out enough
Babangida is supposed to be in prison or sentenced to death, that's the problem we have in Nigeria, they all get away with the evil so it's normal to them and to those presently in power now

OP, you forgot that great man , chukwumerije , Abacha"s '" highly reverred " minister of information . was the minister of propaganda of the short-lived Biafra republic decades before ! When these type of character declare it's bright and sunny outside , better get your brolly ! guess some are born for the job or role they took up .

Guardian are just being mischievous. It is generally acknowledged that it was an agreement by the sdp to participate in Abacha's govt. However, it was based on the belief that negotiations between Abacha and MKO will be concluded soon on power transfer. The claim though is that they should have resigned when MKO was arrested and it became obvious that there will be no transfer of power. How that was supposed to be a good idea in terms personal safety is anyone's guess.
But on principles, it was the right thing to do

The people who can't conduct free and fair elections haven't been called out enough too.

The case of June 12 as the foundation of Nigeria’s democracy but said its gains have been totally lost to politicians who have no reasons other than greed and selfishness to be in politics, becoming beneficiaries of such foundation laid on the blood of a nationalist.

It was the June-12 crisis and my involvement that gives me joy though the late MKO Abiola never got back his free political mandate given to him by the people of this nation. However, for the epitome of fraud on seat today, this day remains a dark gloom over this nation. The events of 1993 and 2023 share a common thread - the subversion of the will of the people.
Unfortunately you didn't know the truth, maybe you are told or u read it. today MKO abiola will be happy that his boy has finally fought and got back his mandate. Although too late because things and economy have spoiled beyond imagination but the hope is renewed.

Not to exaggerate, but not Tinubu of today, no one else among the politicians can do it. And Nigeria will just end break up. Obasanjo has the chance but can't do that because of the blood that flows in him both military and otherwise, moreso he is not a progressive. Like Awolowo like MKO like Tinubu are the political game changers. Surely Nigeria will be great soon.

Honestly, Babangida should be hanged, killed and his remains be dashed to the vultures to feed on for bringing this political and economic horror on Nigeria. Posterity will never speak well of him

You wrote like an historian, your writing skills fantastically pictures out all incidents that happened pre June 12th and post June 12th election.

I give you kudos.

Point of correction here.

As someone who was alive then, I can tell you for free that those two Ibo men you highlighted were already retired from the Nigerian Navy, so they did NOT put their Naval jobs or careers on the line when they joined the Pro-democracy movement to restore the annulled June 12, 1993 elections.

Ebitu Ukiwe himself had been a victim of Ibrahim Babangida's sacking from the Navy in the 1980s as his second in command in terms of seniority in government. Ndubuisi Kanu was the Military Administrator of Lagos State for only 1 year from 1977 to 1978 so, he was already retired from the Navy when he joined in the Pro-democracy struggle.

You forgot to mention Rear Admiral Alison Madueke who was fired by Abacha as Chief of Naval staff when he said in the SMC that they should release MKO Abiola.
Re: A Thread On The Memories Of The June - 12 Struggle by Believeintruth:
In hindsight isn't it not ironic that the same purveyors of June 12 struggle are the ones who encouraged mass rigging, electoral manipulation and blatant tribalism. Onanuga, Alake and co who were in the forefront of the struggle are doing the same nonsense of which the June 12 struggle was against. Honestly IBB saw far when he annulled the election, because now Nigeria is firmly in bondage of criminals.

My issue with the right is it seem to written by a simple minded person.

What is "Democratic Ideals" he kept repeating that some people stood.

And using the word "Maximum Dictator"

Nigeria Democracy is no where closed to Ideal. It's wasteful and destructive.

Africans must wake up from colonial jargons and realised that what works for the West might not necessarily work for us.

We need to discover our own political system that could African leaders accountable, not the Circus we are playing or else, military will step in again as they did in Burkina Faso and Niger and the cleansing from "the maximum dictator" will happen again.

Maybe you don't understand, nigerians progressiveness started in may29,2023. You May not agree but that is the truth, we are just starting. Buhari govt performance is unfortunate but that's the only strategy for Nigeria to get it right, we saw this since 2014.

You are smoking something really. So what is happening now is progreasiveness, is it progressive to unify exchange rate without sorting out your fx earnings. Do you wake up and do so called subsidy removal without having plan in place? Despite all the economic challenges the viable thing they did with speed is changing the national anthem.
Re: A Thread On The Memories Of The June - 12 Struggle by Promax4321: 3:47pm On Jun 12, 2024
The story left out Peter Gregory Obi who was also Abacha Sani boy.

He benefitted from Abacha loots and power with some of his colleagues, names witheld, they know themselves and what they benefitted from Abacha.

They stood for a yoruba man & wanted to make him president.

Today Igbos can't even vote in Lagos.😞

Yes, you are now getting it gradually on the issue of national anthem passage speed, this shows, Tinubu policies are ok and loved by the legislators. what finished Awolowo and MKO was simply because they make open Thier good plans and enemies of progress planned for Thier down fall. It's not secret, Tinubu is a confirmed city boy, if he throws missiles to a direction means he is working in another direction. So, The national anthem is the first step of the 3 major reforms of returning back everything undemocratic been handed over to us by the military constitution of 1999. Soon you will see another speedy passage of bills ... LG autonomy and 1960 constitution loading. So everyone will show Thier productive powers in Thier zones. On the subsidy and floating of naira, the guy hit the ground running as he promised during campaign, and for me, I love end results but not the pains of the processes. Just calm down. The master is on the wheel bro...

Yes Yorubas did, also most igbos were not allowed to vote.

Infact it was so bad that even yorubas who looked igbo were not allowed to vote.

Their struggle in vain.
All of them, including Bola Tinubu, pleaded for political restructuring of Nigeria to true and fiscal federalism.
Tinubu benefits from their struggles but never talks about restructuring Nigeria.
He rather talks about democracy though he knows that democracy in a country with false foundation will fail.
