Why Are Foodstuffs Going Up: by Bluntemperor(op): 12:27pm On Jun 13, 2024
I watched a video that was going on in another platform this morning and a young lady just travelled to one of the Northern States, only to discover that the Prices of same Foodstuffs are cheaper there than in the South here.
Is it a Conspiracy Theory by the Trailers,Transporters or Marketers against the Southern buyers or what do you call this?
For example,a basket 🧺 of tomato 🍅,sold in the North for 4k is sold here for N150k but why the high prices here in the South, especially Lagos and same with other Foodstuffs like Garri, beans, yam, etc .
Is there any reason(s) adduced to this self -inflicted pain on the Masses?
What is wrong?

You'll know when you stop lieing and deceiving yourself.

There's nowhere currently in Nigeria where standard meal is cheaper.

Your tinupoo has failed to provide security for farmers as they're being killed everyday by Fulani herdsmen and bandits.

Reasons why foodstuff prices are increasing:

1. Insecurity in the north - farmers cannot access their farmlands anymore

2. Increase in transportation prices - thanks to petrol subsidy removal

3. A lot of middlemen (like policemen and agbero) extorting drivers and sellers

4. Increase in prices of farm inputs - inflation

5. Little or no government intervention in forms of seedlings, tractors, fertilizers, etc.

6. Price manipulation by sellers to make more profits.
Re: Why Are Foodstuffs Going Up: by RepoMan007: 1:11pm On Jun 13, 2024
Transportation has increased because petrol of circa 200 bucks a litre is now around N650-N700.
Cost of moving heavy food like water melon and fruits is hardest hit.

You forgot levies by bandits and waste as a result of lower patronage of perishable. Mango suffered this year.

No how the food will not be expensive....transporting food from north to south.. imagine the money police, army, custom, agbero frsc ,union collect from drivers..now imagine how many check points on the road from north to south.my brother, the person wey get the food will add all those expenses on the consumers....that's what we mean when we say something is fundamentally wrong with this country..

When you over tax people in a poor economy, it automatically leads to increase in the price of commodity. Infact some businesses will relocate to new areas or country where their business will not be over taxed.

This explains why there are job loses and companies leaving Nigeria.

The reasons include

High cost of transportation
Multiple farm produce road blocks and taxation .
Bad roads
Banditry and herdsmen issue.
Fewer people farming.
