wallahi you just educate me, i share thesame view with the guy u replied, but after u explained everything i realized i am wrong.
Reflect7:
So WHY WAS NIGERIA NOT LIKE UK or JAPAN BY 1960?

YOU SLAVE WITH NO BRAIN?

By 1960, the British had been ruling Nigeria for 63 years uninterrupted..

Exporting resources worth TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS CUMULATIVELY IN TODAY'S MONEY.

But at Independence in 1960, Nigeria's Literacy Race was 7%.

After 63 years of BRITISH RULE.

Compared to 70% today, after just 60 years of independence, and even with a quadrupled population.

Why do you think your grandparents/great-grandparents were village illiterates and peasants?

You think there was no money to educate them?

Do you know that our FIRST POWER PLANT was Kainji Dam, commissioned in 1964 by the Balewa administration?

Prior to that, the British used imported industrial GENERATORS to light up the GRAs nationwide and Ikoyi where their officers and local staff lived.

The rest of Nigeria was in darkness, outside the colonialists' immediate environment.

There wasn't even a NATIONAL GRID until after independence.

Look around you today. NAME ONE INFRASTRUCTURE YOU SEE that was built by the British.

Any roads? Expressways? Any flyovers, train stations, hospitals? Industries?

NOTHING.

EVERYTHING you see around you was built by post-independence Nigerian government and citizens.

Prior to independence, a FOOTPATH led to your village. NOT A ROAD.

Cars would park at the nearest town with an actual road and then WALK to your village, often for DAYS.

Today you see a wide motorable road that leads to even remote hamlets.

When the road is untarred you will abuse our ''useless govt'', without whom you wouldn't even have a road at all!

In fact before independence, cars were only for the super rich.

The middle class rode BICYCLES.

Everyone else walked. Often barefoot and malnourished.

Until you SLAVES get it into your THICK heads that COLONISATION is a system of oppression in which the COLONISER invades you to LOOT YOUR RESOURCES in order to enrich HIS OWN NATION, you will continue posting DUMB posts like this that just make you look so damn IGNORANT AND STUPID.

The Europeans in South Africa saw it as ''their'' country, and settled there en masse, and therefore did not LOOT THE RESOURCES AND SIPHON EXPORT EARNINGS TO EUROPE as was the case in Nigeria and other black African colonies, which were COMPREHENSIVELY LOOTED. AND LEFT UNDERDEVELOPED.

In fact by 1940 South Africa was already developed. They had built their first power plants in the 1880s. First universities in the 1880s. At independence in 1960 Nigeria had NOT ONE full fledged university.

Today we have over 300, courtesy of self-rule.

So quit being stupid, NAIVE and thinking, ''OH, IT IS WHITE PEOPLE, SO IF THEY RULE US, WE WILL BE LIKE AMERICA AND GERMANY''.

Such thinking is based on extreme, indeed alarming, geopolitical naivety.

They always work according to their INTERESTS, not yours.

Let me correct you on power plant. Kainji was not the first. The first was Ijora which ran on coal, followed by Oji River in Enugu which also ran on coal then the third was Afam Power Station(now Afam 1) which ran on gas.

Who ever bought and fought for independence in Nigeria, really did us a terribly bad thing. God will never forgive nnamdi Azikiwe and those that assisted him in achieving independence for Nigeria.

If the white europeans were still with us we'll be as comfortable as the south African, look at their environment.

As black people we need the help of white people to fare better.
Go and read the history of SA. As much as I agree with you on the impact of the white man the ones you see in SA were not colonizers. SA actually got independence in 1910.

I'm yet to hear Kenyans or Rwandans spew this self-hating nonsense, that's exactly why their countries are growing in leaps and bounds, Nigerians on the other hand, are waiting for white men to intervene..sighs
We are all waiting for one white man to intervene.

Only He can lift our curse. He alone can carry us to a life of abundance.

slavery is when you still have your colonist still living with you

LOL, if this is your definition of slavery then...Native Mexicans, the Maori of New Zealand..the Aborigines of Australia, NAtive Americans, and all the Natives of the Americas are all slaves, right? you don't know what slavery is my friend. A mere coexistence with white people is NOT slavery
Slavery is the conditions most of you Nigerians find yourselves in, hence your predisposition to flee your godforsaken country. You are the actual slaves as proven by verifiable data

See how Nigerians are attacking OP. Nigerians should accept that the country is not working. No need blaming others for refering or reminding us of the country's short coming. We should look inward and try to make amends. We first of all have to accept that we are not getting it right. Blame the leaders responsible, not those that point your errors to you.
The message will fall on deaf ears or might bring a barrage of insults and accusations of how you just hung the nigerian dirty linen in public LoL grin
