The rising cost of food produce as a result of several factors, such as insecurity, climate change, the cost of transportation, fertilizers, and the availability of healthy seedling to plant, calls for immediate intervention. Being raised by a father who practiced subsistence farming and vowed never to use fertilizers on his farm for the fear of cancer and other health related issues made me develop fear of chemicalized farming. I know we buy a lot of food stuff in the market without knowing how they were cultivated but I won't apply chemicals to the ones I plant myself to avoid make wetin I know kill me. However, considering the cost of food and the ever-rising population is another concern as we seem to consume much more that what we produce. Then the use of GMO crops comes to mind but with mixed feelings and reactions.

To the farmers in the house, what's your take on this: GMO or natural food production?

I recommend combination of both because of hunger and low productivity of subsistence farmers. The GMO always yield more and that can reduce hunger. Organic should be the main option but we know we lack food and so GMO can cover that space organic cant.

Don’t you think GMO will have much negative effects on health,when compared to the natural food production ? That’s basically my fear...

Do we trade quantity over quality or vice versa? Shouldn't we consider the health risk involved?

We should try as much as possible to avoid GMO foods ... and try even harder to prevent the cultivation of GMO crops. Many of us are calling for mechanized farming .... huge farms .., GMO crops? GMO crops are not at all healthy. Reason this .... the US is big on GMO crops.... for yearsss. Canada and Europe are not. Do you ever wonder why the country with the most diseases is the US? ... foods and medications. For your own observation and decision making.... buy a GMO fruit .... and the same non GMO fruit... leave them to sit and observe. Doesn't matter the fruit.... Over time it will reduce to a puddle .... Would not become ripe... over ripe... then dry. The skin will begin to leak as the inside of the fruit breaks down. I guarantee you.... it will not be visited by flies.. roaches... bees etc.... they will stay clear of it and flock the natural one. Why? Try the same with beef. Cows in the US have been engineered... cloned ... they die in the field... vultures stay clear. Why? People are becoming conscious... thanks to SM ... the powers that be cannot control the information like before. Fish farmers ... bigger and meatier fish ... mature much faster... are they all males? ... do they reproduce? Those are the fish we eat.... fish loaded with antibiotics that enter our system when we consume the fish. Why wouldn't it affect us? My advice.... stick to non GMO.... people are laying through the nose for natural foods ... people are becoming more health conscious.
