What evidence?. we are talking about 1880s when palm oil was first produced in niger delta coasts. the revenue was used by the british to develop eastern region. at the time, there was no imo state. palm oil in southeast was decades later.

It is crucial for all Igbo-speaking people, especially the Anioma people, to be united in the same region as their kith and kin from the Southeast. Just as efforts are being made to bring all Yoruba-speaking people into the Southwest region, it is unfair and destabilizing to continue dividing Igbo-speaking areas into other regions.

Whether Delta Igbos belong to the Southeast, South-South, or Midwest, you cannot call them Yoruba-Igbos or Ijaw-Igbos. Just as you wouldn't call Yorubas in Kwara and Kogi Fulani-Yorubas. The proposed new regions cleverly include all Yoruba-speaking areas of Kogi and Kwara into the new "Western region" to prevent any Yoruba from remaining a minority in the North Central region and being marginalized. Meanwhile, Igbo-speaking areas are being divided into a new "Mid-West region" and a new Southern region, where they will always be minorities.

As an Anioma person, I fully agree with Senator Ned Nwoko. Though we have never been part of the Southeast, Nigerians still recognize our Igbo heritage and treat us as Igbos. During the civil war, even though we were part of Nigeria, we were the only "Nigerians" massacred by Nigerian troops for being Igbos. If Biafra existed today and we were in Nigerian territory, do you think we would be treated as anything but Igbos, even if we never declared war on Nigeria?

Denying Anioma's Igbo identity is futile. As a child, I vehemently denied being Igbo because my mother told us so. I have since realized the folly in denying who we are. It makes us unacceptable to both Nigerians and our Igbo kinsmen. This is precisely Nigeria's plot to weaken Anioma people. In 2024, I can tell you that the trick used on our people in the 1960s is now stale and futile. We must stand together as one Igbo people for our collective strength and identity.

The more you try to defend yourself, the more you expose yourself. Niger Delta region was already under the Eastern region and wasn't forced in by Ojukwu ? Good! It was the same way Eastern region was also generally part of Nigeria as a country before they tried to break out. Igbos breaking out of Nigeria isn't my problem at all. Let's do a little analysis of history here ma. Remember Adaka Boro declared an independent state of Niger Delta but was arrested by Aguinyi Ironsi fot trying to break out. It was obvious that ijaw people didn't wish to be part of eastern region just like Igbos didn't want to be part of Nigeria. Why force them?
