Bobloco:This is biased version of reportage of the issues on ground in Rivers state. What about the recent court of f appeal that statest that Martins Amaewhule is still the speaker and the other 26 members still being active and that the laws they made valid? What about the Justice Omotosho's ruling? |

Remember, all of this is happening because the person in government house of rivers state got there because the former governor stole and manipulated the election results. |

marksonrick:Simple, when the tenure of Governors end, does the president go about appointing caretaker governors? No! I am just laughing at people who on the one hand want LG autonomy but are applauding SIM for doing what is clearly wrong. I am no fan of Wike but the right thing should be done always, caretaker chairman should not suffice in 2024, Fubara should ask Rivers Independent Electoral Commission to conduct LG elections. |

Seefinish:If Tinubu begins to plant his loyalist as Governors starting from Edo, I hope you won't come here to complain? We should be careful what we endorse because they're far reaching implications. |

Cmanforall:It would have been better he planned towards conducting an election before the amendment. How will the governor feel if after his tenure, the president appoint caretaker governor. He should not allow bloodshed in his state. It's quite unfortunate that young men are going to be used in causing all manner of havoc. If his men attack the LGA chairmen and there is counter attack, then he will be destroying his state instead of building it. |

patrickmuf:I have thought of this too. Why bend on appointing chairmen when you can just conduct election and continue your business in governance. He is distracting himself and that's not wise. He could have easily gotten other parts to win and make them his men. He should be wise in his decisions, that's just what I have to say. |

AMBODE and real Lagosians who are reading and willing to break the control of Tinubu in Lagos should go and learn from Fubara and Obaseki |

marksonrick:Your point is understandable. But do you think his candidates will win the PDP tickets over Wike's candidates in Rivers? |

patrickmuf:My brother Wike is reaping what he has sown. During his tenure he equally appointed caretaker committees. It will interest you to know tha Undemocratic LGAs: 19 states run 433 councils with caretaker committee local councils N-East emerges best with 37 of 112 LGAs not under democracy N-West emerges worst with 115 of 186 LGAs affected S-East follows with 82 of 95 councils hit IN spite of efforts to deepen democracy in Nigeria, no fewer than 19 state governors are running their local councils with transition or caretaker committees. Saturday Vanguard’s checks indicate that currently, 433 (58.2 per cent) of the 774 local councils are without elected chairmen and councillors. This is against the provisions of Section 7 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which guarantees the system of local government by democratically elected officials. From next month, the number of undemocratically administered LGAs may go higher as the tenures of council officers expire in Jigawa (June 1) and Rivers. Only 311 LGAs (41.8 per cent) across 17 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, have elected officers. Reasons cited for the inability of many states to conduct council polls include insecurity, paucity of funds, political and legal battles. |

aviara:I was not in support of Wike when he was governor and if I was not in support of his style, then, I should not applaud Fubara now just to spite Wike that won't be affected in any way safe for bruised ego. Tomorrow, Fubara's successor will come and point to what Fubara did as a yardstick to continue in the same line which is bad for the system. |

marksonrick:This is what a reasonable person should be clamoring for. Caretaker committees are just an extended arm of the state executives. 8f we want the grassroots to enjoy development then, we have to support every move that seeks to make the LGAs autonomous. If Fubara is scared of conducting elections then, I'm not sure he has his house in order. |

marksonrick:You can't in one day just conduct local government election it takes time to get prepared that is why interim CTC are appointed to fill d vacuum.he is d leader of PDP in d state so he can choose his own loyalists & grassroots to take over d party structure,I advice him to move towards expelling wike from his ward for anti-party activities, sponsor his own loyalists to be PDP state executives. |

bizzibodi:He is already one year in office, he had well enough time to prepare for election. His fear, is the PDP of a thing. If he can suspend wike and investigate for anti party, he should do so if not, it's really easy to sponsor labor party to win LGA election. His saving grace though is Tinubu not fully supporting Wike if not, he'll have had it hotter than what happened to Amaechi. In the East, this doesn't happen. |
