It can also be caused by sudden weather changes, and some routes are notorious for frequent turbulence. Pilots are trained to navigate safely through or around these turbulent areas, and modern aircraft are designed to handle such conditions. Here are eight locations where experiencing turbulence during a flight is common.

Similar to the Milan-Geneva route, this flight crosses the Alps, causing turbulence due to the mountainous terrain and regional weather patterns.

This route flies over a varied landscape including the Qinling Mountains and the Sichuan Basin. The geographical variations, coupled with central China's weather patterns, contribute to turbulence.

I think the most dangerous is any travel over the Alps of Europe, Himalayas or Bermudan triangle.

Though i am not a frequent flyer or flying enthusiast (fear of plane crash, safety concerns) during my numerous flights over the past years , i experienced one severe turbulence on a SABENA flight from Brussels to Lagos some 12years ago.

Our Lagos bound flight had already crossed the mediterranien and was already on the african airspace before this terrible turbulence began. It was so severe many of us aboard were already saying ours last prayers. The brave Pilot kept begging us , the panicking passengers for calmness.

After all the drama we had safe landing at MMA. Generally flights between Nigeria and Europe has good safety records.

Eventhough flights over the Alps in Europe may be turbulent , there has not been outrageous number of crashes in this region.

The Germanwings flight that crashed in the French alps in 2015 was the fault of the co-pilot Andreas Lubitz who intentioally crashed the plane against the Mountains.
