I have followed the Trademore estate story since 2012 and I think that I know it far more than you do.
Follow the story and you’ll understand all the perspectives. You’ll also find out the role of government and government officials in the matter.

Nigerians are a funny kind of people....

Just take a look at the way some bunch of ijiots have turned this thread into a tribal bashing thread........Una really get a very long way to go for this country I swear.
I don't think I saw any tribal bashing, only one or two persons who mentioned something related to tribe but nothing else. In fact ur comment was even what made me think of.anything tribe.

I thought that after their previous experiences, something serious would have been done to save the lives of citizens in that estate.

Rather than purchase jeeps that serves only their personal purposes, why not channel the funds to flood prone areas like this? Last year, flooding cost lives and properties. This year the same thing is repeated. It shows that despite voting to get them into power, nothing was done in one year.

Again, the disagreement between Wike and Mrs. Ireti Kingibe makes it difficult for them to do something meaningful together in the FCT. Wike dances to the tune of BAT, while Ireti Kingibe appears to dance to her own tune or to the tune of the citizens, even as the FCT senator.
it is an illegal estate and the owner of the estate went to court last year after they were advised to go to fcda to find solutions to their problem. That estate is definitely going down and that estate was built years ago......there are many illegal estates without genuine documents in Abuja so this is not even political.

When the executive secretary said it is an illegal estate I told myself if the owner doesn't find a solution to this flooding thing they will demolish it.

When I said this last year nobody took me serious
I made a post about this on Nairaland but I went no where
I am and don't want to be the bearer of bad news but this flooding is just starting soon it will come in a large magnitude it will cover a while Abuja and lokoja at once it's not a prophecy it's science it's facts it's data reading over a long period of time the earth tectonic plates are moving this happens once every hundreds of years and the movement is navigating with water towards Africa.
If you watch other countries their ocean just disappeared from view over night, those water is coming this way and if we don't start investing in good weather satellite redar equipment to help batteries this issue, we are yet to see the worst of it.
This is a natural occurrence it happens and there is nothing we can do to stop it from happening the best we can do is be blessed to predict when and how bad of a damage it will do to areas where people/residence of large people call home. This might be able to help us prevent loss of lives and resources before it occurs.
But who am I to say, since I am certain some people will come here and rebuke me for the truth. God will not come down and help us when it gets worst it's better we face it now than sit down when it starts and say it's God anger upon us. Let us do what is necessary because when it starts all those money and properties our government embezzle steal out for ground it won't be of any use then because nobody will be able to live on that land for the next 300 years or even more.
God help us.

At least two people have now been reported dead. This has become a perennial issue, occurring for several consecutive years.

Well, I am almost certain Wike will demolish houses in that area because that estate is obviously sitting on a canal or major drainage.
The FCT Administration had since 2022 made several attempts to demolish parts of the estate said to be on a flood plain, but a court case instituted by residents against it halted the exercise.

Sorry Trademore is not an illegal estate. The residents have their land titles. Built in 2007 and houses handed over to the owners, flooding was not a problem until about 2012, or so.

The problem according to FCTA is that some houses were built on the floodplains. There has been a call for the prosecution of the developer of Trademore Estate, for flood diversion, alleging that there was a diversion of the flood plain. Those properties on the floodplain are said not to have approvals by government. Those are the ones in contention in the courts.

Again, government officials are alleged not to be honest with their intention of demolishing some of the properties. They are said to be interested to purchase properties there if the original owners are vacated. So trust is another issue, even as the case is in court.

Many years ago, the area that became Victoria Iskand extension and partly Lekki, was called Maroko. IBB was the President and a certain Brig Raji Rasaki (deceased) was the administrator of Lagos. He claimed that the area was flood prone, very dirty and uninhabitable. He gave a short notice, mobilized soldiers and men to forcefully evicted the people of Maroko. Immediately after that, the lands were shared among the big men and called Victoria Island extension.

That’s Nigerian leaders for you!

I am saying those in fcda knows how the developer got that land.....I am not going to argue it.....Even the fct minister complained about agis and lands when it comes to statutory allocations, the rot is so deep that one person owns land as the size of a district in that phase v,a full district like maitama. I know what I am saying......

That is why I always tell any developer to go through the process and avoid any shortcuts because the civil servants collecting the money will retire one day and the day of reckoning will come. Na me know how deep the corruption be when it comes to land.

And for good measure if he starts demolition, some will call him wicked, bigot and some others will say he's targeting some particular tribe.
Funny that if you asked a resident of the estate about the situation, they will say "God is in control"....no one will be proactive about it.

The government has been trying to do something about it for more than 6 years now. I can remember the former FCT minister and FHA having some issue with some sections but the residents have been blocking all attempts to correct the flooding issue. This is even small compared to years past.
I find the bold hilarious. Why have the residents been against purported solutions aimed at tackling the flooding issue? Please, what are their reasons?

Useless people . That estate is just like what is happening in nigeria . The residents will use canopies and vehicles to block the gate when government wants to remove the houses . Yet they cry every year when flooding Kills someone there . Wike should beat any person who prevents them from removing those houses

Because those solutions would also mean loosing their homes. Same way the Lagos State government is resolving the issue is illegal structures on canals and spillways

Very funny indeed. I heard they have been dragging the FCT to court over the proposed demolition. They prefer people dying every year instead.
