The only people who experienced this kind of hardship and insecurity where the old eastern region(present day south east and south south) I believe that was the reason why the vehemently refused to vote for tinubu, they scented his poverty oriented policies like fly scent shit. |

raumdeuter:its either you were not born by then or you were outside the country, or a mischief maker, during abacha the economy was good, the exchange rate was also well managed, maybe you wanted to say buhari ,who was also a terrible head of state as he was as a president |

surgical:Truly, he is a Mischief Maker. ![]() Gen Sani Abacha's Govt was one of the Best in History in terms of Cost of Living. ![]() |

Vinnie2000:Corruption, Mismanagement and Wastage by our Government caused severe inflation in 1984 where Beans, Rice, Garri prices skyrocketed and there was huge UNEMPLOYMENT and massive japanisation. Whether it was worse or not is however subjective. |

Vinnie2000:You were fully present and did not know about ASUU strike of 1996 when Abacha sacked all University lecturers and there was no JAMB exam in 1996? There was no scarcity when people were using sawdust to cook that they even named it Abacha stove All these kids wey full this website sef |
| Re: HARDSHIP IN THE COUNTRY: Has There Been Any Like This, In The Past? by raumdeuter: 1:42pm On Jun 25, 2024 |
surgical:All these kids sef How was economy good when people were cooking with Abacha stove, people were starving, the minimum wage under Abacha was about N450 Naira and even workers were owed for months, Exchange rate Abacha maintained a dual exchange rate N22 for banks and N74 naira for the public, so the banks were just getting cheap dollar and selling for profit, ASUU was on strike for an entire year when Bacha sacked all lecturers, that was the reason for no JAMB in 1996 I dont even want to go talk about human right abuses |

raumdeuter:Ogbeni, you can't Deceive us. ![]() During Abacha's time, Nigeria had a Stable Economy. In the 90's, civil servants were buying Cars and Colour Televisions like it's Normal. ![]() Which civil servant can buy even Keke Now? ![]() You can't use Just ABacha Stove to paint his Govt Black. ![]() |
| Re: HARDSHIP IN THE COUNTRY: Has There Been Any Like This, In The Past? by raumdeuter: 4:18pm On Jun 25, 2024 |
Vinnie2000:Minimum wage was N450 yet civil servants were buying cars. How were they? you think cars were sold for N5K? In the Abacha times that was when people due to hardship started getting creative and started eating Soybeans cheese(Wara Soya), Zobo, Kunu, stone rice. Things we never ate in the 80s |

samomoli:^^^ This is incorrect. The Abacha years were not good by any standard. |
| Re: HARDSHIP IN THE COUNTRY: Has There Been Any Like This, In The Past? by Fujiyama: 4:42pm On Jun 25, 2024 |
Vinnie2000:^^^ Not true. You talk about ASUU not striking? Do you remember Minister of Education Wada Nas and his battles with ASUU? ![]() The Abacha years were really, really dark, just like the current time. Taking another look at your comments about the Abacha years being stable and secure, I'm not sure if you're trolling... Edit: I've taken a look at all your posts on this thread and its clear you're trolling, big time. |

![]() With nairaland being the psychiatrists training hospital that it is, it wouldn't surprise me if the pro-Abacha, anti-Abacha and 'codedly' pro-Tinubu elements on this thread are one and the same person. |

raumdeuter:You just provided evidence against your position. If minimum wage was N450 and the official exchange rate was N22, then workers were earning about $200. At the proposed minimum wage of N62000, workers will earn less than $50. Truly, Nigeria is in bizarre times. |
| Re: HARDSHIP IN THE COUNTRY: Has There Been Any Like This, In The Past? by raumdeuter: 5:05pm On Jun 25, 2024 |
Tianamen1:No one was getting Dollar at #22, Only banks. The people were getting it at #70. So 450 is just less than $7 |

Vinnie2000:Salaries wasn't owed at all. The only problem then was scarcity of fuel, scarcity of kerosene most especially because 80% of households depended on it. For the economy,it was better. |

Nice2023:Under Abacha, there was nothing like Galloping Inflation, Unemployment, Japa Syndrome, etc. ![]() If we want to talk about a Govt where there was HARDSHIP, His name should never be called. ![]() |
