You mean the DC in charge of revenue?
Yes. The DCG should have done the presentation.

Don't steal or create an impression of theft of public fund if you don't have the balls to the face the panel of inquiry.
He may have died of cardiac arrest or other cardiovascular complications but, one thing I am sure of is that, it was precipitated by the phobia of facing the panel.
Our people are very funny, they don't quiver when they are eating fat from the national revenue but, the moment they are surmoned to come and explain, they start fidgeting or even slump and die of phobia.
Rip to him.

Why should I deliberately seek headache for myself by going back to go and read the incoherent words written by an illiterate like you?
Can you read and understand what u wrote?
Is that how someone that went to school write? Did you even pass SS2?
Do you think you can pass WAEC if you write in such manner?
Shame on you if you pass SS 2 and you write like that.
My son, go back to school and complete the class you dropped out from.
I have told Seun to start profiling Nairaland users to ensure we don't have too many teenagers here.

Sometimes, there is a price for being competent and brilliant. The responsibility he took up yesterday was the responsibility of the Comptroller General of Customs. The CG was the one invited to face the committee but he pushed it to his most senior DCG to represent him.

If you watch the video, the man sitting to the right of DC Essien is a DCG and the man sitting to his left is a comptroller. The DCG is in charge of Finance, Account and technical services of Customs and the Comptroller is in charge of Accounts. Both are very senior officers but they still decided to push the presentation to a Deputy Controller.

Maybe he would still be alive today if he was not the one given the responsibility to make the presentation to the committee. In as much as there may be underlying medical condition, the fear of making that presentation triggered his medical condition and ultimately led to his death. Senior officers who make all the decisions and enjoy all the benefits of their big ranks should take more responsibility and stop pushing duties like this to those under them. May God rest his soul.
The only reasonable comment you have made on Nairaland since you joined the forum. I just wish you keep it up!

Kudos, for the the robust explanation. I just don't follow the the usual cardiac arrest shouting by various posts.
They forgot that something triggered that arrest. Nervousness and uneasy or even knowing something and trying to hide can triggered his BP.

More reason why we need to take our health serious. Nigerians only go to the doctor when they are really sick or at the point of death. We can avoid a lot of chronic disease with just one annual wellness visit, or even once every two years. That way, things can be detected early and promptly treated. This saves money and life down the line.

RIP to the man. It's so painful to lose a love one like this... just imagine this man left home this morning, healthy and sound. Now they have to inform the family that he's no more... so sad.
What if it was poison?

I agree that periodic medical checkups are very important but I must add that, they won’t matter when a person’s time is up. I lost an uncle to cardiac arrest last April and the irony is that he exercised very well, took medical care really serious and also ate very select foods. I think we all have expiry dates and once it is way past your time, then you must leave.

Hahahahaha. See mouth from online rat. Who is your mate?
I tell you honestly and God knows it's true, I am not your mate. I am 2000% sure of that.
When I was in University writing projects for people, you were probably still running around the streets with tyres.
My young brother, I am not your mate, I swear and believe you, I am not. If you meet me on the streets face to face, I swear you will bend your stupid block head in greeting. I am not lying. It is a damn truth.
Let me quit wasting my precious time with you.

they should conduct an autopsy, to ascertain the cause of his death.
This is the first realistic comment I have read concerning the next step of action.

Unfortunately, education has been so compromised in Nigeria that it required 3 pages of commentary to read the most reasonable next step.

Pathologies like Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy can kill a person without any prior symptoms.

Someone wrote "spiritual remote control". What does that even mean? Are our brains so blunted? How do you write that in English Language? Did the Europeans who taught us their language teach that type of nonsense? Or is "spiritual remote control" only capable of affecting Black Africans?

Another wrote "phobia of the screening". Heck. An American Vice President once died while having what is rumoured to be sex. There is the phrase, "Rockefeller didn't know if he was cuming or going.."

There is so much re-investment in education that this country needs. It would help the populace to understand the actions of government. At the moment, this thread reveals a lot that tells that we have a very large ignorant population. No country can truly develop economically with this kind of population, regardless of who is President.

It is the same thing Ruto is facing in Kenya. Popularly elected like our Buhari in 2015, the locals are tired of him after 2 years because he has to raise revenue from them to settle international lenders in order to be able to run the economy. Granted, the local people may be upset at the possible extravagant lifestyle of the elected, but the same local people often FLEECE the elected so much before elections can be won.

It is more like politicians actually have to literally bribe everyone within and outside the political parties before they can actually win elections. They thus go into office to recoup the financial outlay. The financial discipline that our people consequently seek from the elected officials must also be exemplified by the people before the elections.

In Nigeria, to be a "delegate" at party primaries is considered an opportunity to "hammer". That's the corruption staring at us all in the face - as perpetuated by us in the name of "National Cake", yet we want to have the same cake we have eaten. We cannot have both.

We've got to learn the gospel of DELAYED GRATIFICATION and priotise MERITOCRACY over money politics.

There should be a doctor on standby at every hearing involving public officials. Such provisions should be made because this is the second time this is occurring

Well, it did not end well as we can all see. The right procedure is for the DC to prepare the presentation and the DCG FATS to do the presentation. The DC can assist with relevant information and documents as the hearing proceeds.

Such happened in my workplace and it led to my recognition. The people my chairman employed as experts when it came to presentation they pushed it to me. Before then without the knowledge of anyone in the company I had gone for an advanced course in that field. That made the presentation they schemed away from very elementary to me. The white man I presented before took my performance before my Chairman and everyone was singing my praise.

Added to that was the possibility that he was more competent than those ahead of him. They were sure that he could do a better job and better defense when questions were asked.

Again people should know their limits health wise and can I add the word spiritual?

May the family be comforted. It is such a sad loss of possibly one of the best officers in the customs service.

How old is the man?

On his CV, you might see him claiming to be 42 years old, yet he joined the service 27 years ago.
