An old man came to Osun from Sokoto many years ago, to sell rams for Sallah.

He sold a trailer load of rams.

He told my colleague in Hausa that he will not touch his money for transport back to Sokoto, but rather, he will turn beggar and make the transport fare back from the charity of unsuspecting people.

People will hand their ₦100 to a man who has millions!

That's exactly what he did.

He entered Olaiya roundabout (no flyover there back then, Oyinlola days) and begged his way to pay for transport back home.

What makes you different from the person you are correcting? Why mention Yoruba Muslims?

Give them food, not money.

Don't give them money because they are mischievous. If you offer them a job that they can do, they will run from it. If you put the kids in school, they will withdraw the kids from the school. If you give them an accommodation, they will run from it.

Even in giving them food, know your limit. Most of them purposely give birth to babies or even higher babies just to make you pity them.
There was a day I was buying corn and this beggar came to me. I felt sorry for the old man and asked the woman to give him one corn which is sold at NGN250 naira with Obe NGN100. Na so the beggar vex , sey he need the money and not the corn. Oya, na so I tell the woman to sell my own and give me my change. I left the man there looking and hoping I would give him money.

I hate Lazy people and it obvious that man has been a career beggar for a very long time.

Things are very difficult now but am damn sure it will never be like this by this time of next year .

People just need to think and that's the simple solution.. a lot of people are not sleeping mentally again as they've gone back to drawing board ....while many never serious and don't wanna be productive ... always blaming govt.

How long will you continue to help them? Their leaders are the wealthiest in the whole nigeria yet can't even help them the worst is during presidential elections these same beggars will prefer voting base on either religious or ethnic sentiments instead of voting for candidates that has plans to take them out of the streets.

I'm telling you!

Same way OP has what he does to earn a living, a profession or handiwork that's how begging is to them!

You'd be surprised some if not most of these people are landlords in their hometowns. They only come to the southern cities to "hustle".

I stopped giving beggars money after I heard some of them use it for funny purposes like cleaning away their problems and so. I'm not the overly spiritual type but better safe than sorry

COMRADES, please this is an appeal, whenever you see these beggars help them with the little you can, the N50, N100, we give them goes a long way in their lives

I am aware of the ongoing hardship in our land, but these are people who are incapacitated in almost all ramifications of living

Please, endeavour to do so, your pot of oil will never run dry.

This is PORT HARCOURT CITY, and not a Northern part Nigeria, as some of the posters below are insinuating
How will dashing them money go a long way in their life, compared to training/educating them to WORK with their brains and be productive members of society, instead of being forever dependent PARASITEShuh

Why would you wish such a parasitic state on anyone?

agbotikuyo:
World renowned physicist Stephen Hawking has died at the age of 76.

He died peacefully in his home in Cambridge in the early hours of Wednesday, his family said.

He was known for his work with black holes and relativity, and wrote several popular science books including A Brief History of Time.

"We are deeply saddened that our beloved father passed away today," his children said.

At the age of 22 Stephen Hawking was given only a few years to live after being diagnosed with a rare form of motor neurone disease.

The illness left him wheelchair-bound and largely unable to speak except through a voice synthesiser.

In a statement his children, Lucy, Robert and Tim, said: "He was a great scientist and an extraordinary man whose work and legacy will live on for many years."

They praised his "courage and persistence" and said his "brilliance and humour" inspired people across the world.

"He once said, 'It would not be much of a universe if it wasn't home to the people you love.' We will miss him forever."

Prof Hawking was the first to set out a theory of cosmology as a union of relativity and quantum mechanics.

He also discovered that black holes leak energy and fade to nothing - a phenomenon that would later become known as Hawking radiation.

Factfile: Stephen Hawking

Born 8 January 1942 in Oxford, England
Earned place at Oxford University to read natural science in 1959, before studying for his PhD at Cambridge
By 1963, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease and given two years to live
Outlined his theory that black holes emit "Hawking radiation" in 1974
Published his book A Brief History of Time in 1988, which has sold more than 10 million copies
His life story was the subject of the 2014 film The Theory of Everything, starring Eddie Redmayne
line
The scientist gained popularity outside the academic world and appeared in several TV shows including The Simpsons, Red Dwarf and The Big Bang Theory.

He was portrayed in both TV and film - recently by Eddie Redmayne in the film The Theory of Everything which charted his rise to fame and relationship with his first wife Jane.

That's another reason people should stop giving them money. Wealthy people do approach them to buy the money they realized from begging for spiritual purposes
