The church pastor called him out during Sunday service and told the whole church how he fell into fornication, stripped him of his position, asked people to avoid him and that He prays God would restore him!

Bro K was shattered. He wished the ground could open and swallow him! The embarrassment was too much for him to bear! All the young guys and converts he taught in church looked at him with disdain and disappointment!

He continued coming to the church in the weeks that followed but you could see he was depressed. He avoided eye contact and became reclusive. Everyone avoided him - Nobody wanted to be seen with a publicly condemned sinner and backslider!

About three months after the public rebuke, he couldn’t take it any longer! The mental torture was too much and he decided that rather than commit suicide he would leave church and Christianity and go into the world and find solace !

Bro K transitioned into a playboy! He used women to cure his depression! They loved him and helped him heal when the church deserted him! He hasn’t returned to the church, the last I heard of him!

Bro You're one of the few persons I like and respect on this platform but to be candid with you sir, I don't support and I vehemently dislike your opinion on this matter.

Many churches through the leadership these days have driven away from the tenets and the foundation of Christ. If you ask me a hundred time what would be the reaction of Christ on this matter I will say it's in the other way round.

In as much as backsliding is not condoned in the kingdom, there's every possibility of a righteous man falling (it's only the grace that keeps us all standing).

You see wickedness and hypocrisy are eating up the church and unfortunately many leaders think they're gathering for Christ but rather they're scattering from Him.

Don't you remember how many time bro Peter misbehaved and fell and Jesus was still lenient with him even after the death of Jesus he went back but Jesus in His mercy and love still brought him back.

Remember there is joy in heaven for a sinner that repent but what happens when we use our hands to put the sinner away to keep sinning?

Constructive discipline is what Jesus practiced, He never chased anyone to hell because of their misdid. He even gave Judas Iscariot a chance to repent but the dude was hardened, insensitive and hellbent.

You have a great point, i must admit.
There are places where it is taken to an exterme. That is human behaviour for you. The bible says the Heart of man is naturally evil. There are people who may go to the extreme and cause more harm to the victim.

Personally, i will say boils down to the indivdual.

If I for example mess up and i being disciplined. With what by the grace of God, i know and understand today! I will take the Discipline and make peace with GOD.

No matter the talks and reproach from anyone, I will make peace with JESUS .
If i am restored to the post, good.
If i am not, no problem.

I will rather be the least known or respected member as long as I have made peace with GOD.

1. Most of these our pastors will not let you rest until you agree to become a deacon/pastor not minding if you have the strength/grace for such.

2. Rebuke is for a purpose. Any rebuke that pushes someone to become a worse sinner has lost it's purpose. Even Jesus when he saw that his words were difficult to accept tempered them down (camel through the eye of the needle story)

3. Many of the pastors punishing "sinners" are worst sinners themselves. Many of our church leaders still don't have solid understanding of what God expects from us.

4. Yes we should focus on honouring God more than anything else. Part of the reasons we fall into sin is also when we focus on pastors and what they want rather than focussing on God.

People who hold leadership positions in church must be made to understand the responsibility they carry. Your reckless lifestyle can make tens of thousands lose interest in Christianity. So, you must learn self-discipline and self-control.

Listen, sex is all about knowing how to control your mind and understanding that you have willpower. You don't need any holy spirit to guide you. If you know how to take control of your life and choices, even if Agbani Darego goes naked before you in a room, you will just tell her to put on her clothes. To Bro K, the church took the right decision. Forgive him, but don't let him stand in the pulpit and share the Word of God. That message is too powerful and sensitive to be propagated by someone whom the congregation will look at and the only thing they can imagine is him going against the same thing he preaches. However, the pastor shouldn't have shamed him publicly. Just advise him and let him go in secret.

My own biggest problem with the whole thing is..when he eventually fell off and became a play boy...what did the church do..did they abandon him to his fate or did they go after him...Jesus leaves the 99 to go after the one sheep that was lost..but some are too proud for that.and they will be questioned for that lost sheep...

Hmm, I remember a church guy who was practising homo. He was publicly embarrassed in the church. The community also humiliated him. He left the church and community. After some years, he returned to the community and church. This time he has healed and became bold. Today, he is married with kids. Initially i thought the guy will never come back and possibly break down but I thank God for his life.
