Blazetrailer:Buhari! A better manager? Is this how Nigerians forget things. The same one who used all the govt earnings and even borrowed to fund subsidy The same one that started this crazy currency and inflation problem that is crazily difficult to arrest now. So if Buhari presents/supports/throws his weight behind a northern candidate in 2027 and tells u that he is the solution to Nigeria's current problem, you will actually believe No wonder our politicians get away with anything |

phemray:You have left the crux of the matter to be discussing the personality of Tinubu, and you failed to mention the fact that Tinubu is a certificate forger who claimed to have attended a school four years before it was founded, a notorious narcotics drug trafficker engaging in criminal state capture. Even Reno Omokri has challenged Tinubu to charge him to court if truly he is not a known drug lord. |

I shudder when i read comments like this online, it gives me the creep feeling Nigeria is doomed and can never rise again, if the citizens reason like this, swallow what comes from the government hook line and sinker, without reflecting against the truth, objective reasoning and facts from independent bodies, before regurgitating the "half truths" they read from newspapers already influenced to be propaganda mouthpieces of the government. Indeed, the people deserve the leaders they get. This fellow mentioned that Nigeria was borrowing to pay subsidy before Tinubu stopped it by removing subsidy. The fact is the subsidy is also currently being paid by the current government and they are funding it with borrowings. In fact, the current government, by recent statistics is projected to borrow more than the last 2 governments combined at the current rate, because they need to fund the deficit budget and various supplementary budgets somehow. It is also likely, this government will return to the "Ways and Means" option when it runs out foreign borrowing options at the going rate(World Bank projections). So, what has changed? What is bold in taking a rash and stupid decision without thinking and returning back to it surreptitiously, months later? On the devaluation, forex is still scarce(hence the high rate) and rent seeking is still on-going(there is still a thriving black market), the government is still the largest supplier of forex into the economy, and you can not freely trade USD openly. So in a way, it still not a willing buyer/willing seller thing as they claim. in fact, the IMF/World bank in March 2024 highlighted that the Nigerian government wrongly devalued the currency in June 2023/January 2024 claiming technical hitches in the method of calculation of the exchange rate(laughable reason) and that Nigeria's reforms were still not transparently carried out as implemented. This was weeks before the Finance Minister came out to justify the need for devaluation was to attract foreign investors(no foreign investor dare comes to a chaos). Currently, rent seeking is still ongoing(otherwise there wont be black market anymore) but the naira has been bastardised with no tangible benefit. So, what has changed? However, I can tell you the effect of those decisions and what has changed or are changing soon: 1. Projected recession of the economy by the end of 2024 with no tangible expectation of any recovery back to the pre June 2023 level in sight(World bank) 2. 40% average inflation and 200% inflation in staple food items and rising(one of the highest in the world) 3. Economy is projected to shrink to the 4th largest in Africa from the 1st position by end of 2024 4.Misalignment of monetary and fiscal policies(one chasing down inflation and the other fueling inflation) 5. Increasing the number of Nigerians below poverty line to 123m by end of 2024(World bank/OECD) 6. Complete eradication of the SMEs, which are the backbone of any economy in the world All these costs for the sake of someone making bold but thoughtless decisions in the name of a reformer. As a matter of fact, the Government of Tinubu, while asking its cistizens to sacrifice and buckle up, is on a spending spree, while accumulating fresh loans. So what has changed ![]() tunjilana: |

Lo!!! The current government of Tinubu is also borrowing and is projected to borrow far more than Buhari's government to correct the anomalies in his silly decisions that have led to hyper inflation and pending recession, according to World bank statistics. Buhari might have started what began inflation, But Tinubu conflagrated it with daft, thoughtless and brash decisions that he did not know would lead to this. Last I remember, food/staple inflation was not 200% under Buhari. Buhari was also wise not to devalue the currency in an economy that imports 87% of its GDP, with little or no production. There is a reason many advance countries guard their currencies jealously. Buhari did not also allow anyone to convince him that devaluing the currency will attract foreign investors(as per current minister of Finance said). Someone who could be resolute and far thinking in decision making, despite the fact that he was not properly educated, is a better manager than the so called "master strategist" cum "accountant". In addition, Buhari did not make decisions that have the following terrible consequences. 1. Complete eradication of the SMEs, which are the backbone of any economy in the world Yes, Buhari is a better manager than the current inept there now tunjilana: |

Bobloco:All these are not established and you know that. If it was true it would have been proved by a court or panel of enquiry. Otherwise, these are just Tinubu political relevancy tactics for you people to keep shouting his name every election year to the world and increase popularity because they will love him more once they find out they are all lies. |

tunjilana:Yes. Tell that to Ronu people who keep castigating Igbos and ethnic minorities in the south south. Also, tell that to Tinubu who fought alongside northerners to remove Jonathan. One good turn deserves another. |
