The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company has commenced the implementation of a fresh electricity tariff hike for Band A customers, getting 20-24 hours power supply.

AEDC disclosed this in a notice to customers on Friday, stating its implementation took effect from July 1, 2024.

According to the disco, electricity customers under band A feeders will have to pay N209.5 per Kilowatt-hour up from N206.80kwh.

“In line with the service-based tariff regime, the revised tariff for Band A feeders is effective July 1st, 2024, as follows: old price N206.80/kWh, new price N209.5/kWh

“Please note that the tariffs for Bands B, C, D and E remain unchanged”, the company stated.

DAILY POST reports that Kaduna Electric and other discos in the country recently announced a fresh tariff hike.


Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress and other unions have rejected the hike, calling for the electricity tariff hike reversal.

I spend up to 400k on power annually.

If you have constant power, paying for it won't even bother you.

Right, but for how long per month and per year? You'll keep having the 7 days and a brief shit until your transformer will blow up or some national grid collapse and you won't see light for months. How you guys quickly forget your experience when you see small electricity at times baffles me. There are some countries that's not have a blink for years and if they do it's like once or twice a year and blink for the entire year would be less than 4 hours and you're here talking about 7 days light... Come, take time o!

This Band idea is a terrible one and one that should be scrapped. I know it was one of NLC's demands but unfortunately labour union in Nigeria is powerless! Why give some people 20-24 hours light and keep others in the dark simply because you think they can afford it, even when some of them are not interested because they don't trust you! How do you determine who deserves what band? Is it right to give electricity based on bands? Shouldn't everyone be on the same band and regulate their usage on their own? This minister of power has indeed turned electricity to animal farm where all animals are equal but some are more equal than others!

JEDC migrated my area to band A automatically. Y'all get ready for band A codedly, APC and hike since time immemorial .

I believe people will not vandalize their power installations. We people in Nigeria that don't want the power sector to work. Hope you do hear if vandalism of power infrastructure now and then? Until we Nigerians protect power infrastructure from vandals, we will continue to live in the dark

Rubbish, why downgraded yourself to Asians? Ghana and many African countries have stable power it's not something we can't achieve by ourselves. Our politicians just fight for positions to be more richer.
