₦airaland Forum

After almost a month of intensive negotiations, the official opposition in South Africa, the Democratic Alliance (DA), is proud to announce that we have agreed to a deal to be part of the Government of National Unity (GNU) to enact the will of the South African people delivered through an historic and decisive General Election on 29 May 2024.

The message delivered from the South African electorate has been heard loud and clear. No political party achieved an outright majority, and citizens want politicians to cast aside their differences and work together for the benefit of the people.

The DA is proud to rise to the challenge, and take our place, for the very first time, at the seat of national government where we can introduce our track record of governance excellence, zero tolerance for corruption, and pragmatic policymaking based on outcome and not intent. The mission to create an open, opportunity society for all South Africans now becomes our sole focus as we work the levers of the highest level of government in our country.

The formulation of the DA’s National Executive Member offering takes into consideration skills and expertise, qualifications and experience, and diversity, while ensuring that our parliamentary caucus retains key members to exercise oversight over all national departments. I am proud to announce the 12 Cabinet and Deputy Ministers (within the GNU) as follows:

DA Cabinet Ministers in the GNU:

1. Minister of Agriculture – John Steenhuisen
2. Minister of Basic Education – Siviwe Gwarube
3. Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure – Dean Macpherson
4. Minister of Home Affairs – Dr Leon Schreiber
5. Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment – Dr Dion George
6. Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies – Solly Malatsi

DA Deputy Ministers in the GNU:

1. Deputy Minister of Finance – Ashor Sarupen
2. Deputy Minister of Energy and Electricity – Samantha Graham-Maré
3. Deputy Minister of Small Business Development – Jane Sithole
4. Deputy Minister of Higher Education – Dr Mimmy Gondwe
5. Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition – Andrew Whitfield
6. Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation – Sello Seitlholo

NOTE:
1. 2019 winner - ANC government
2. 2024 winners - Government of National Unity (Coalition)

DA white ministers

There are millions of whites there, so they should be represented in govt.

No big deal.

And skin colour is no guarantor of performance.

If they mess up, they're out.

For the first time in SA, the major oppositions would be working with the government.

Good and matured politics

Something Tinubu's government had done in Nigeria (Wike) I think the rest of Africa is now learning from Nigeria.

They are white South African na, they deserve representation. Stop being a racist!

oh goodness, this is exactly the type of thread that will bring these ones like moths to the flames..

No, this is SA's second GNU. The first was in 1994 with Nelson Mandela's government. Zimbabwe has also had a GNU during the Mugabe-Tsvangarai years.
