The court further held that the government failed to allow and afford the applicants their rights to freedom of expression, assembly, and association, therefore violating the applicants’ rights under Articles 9, 10 and 11 of the African Charter.

The government’s actions were deemed inconsistent with Nigeria’s obligations under the ECOWAS Revised Treaty and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.The court held that the quasi-mechanism set up by the government to investigate the allegations of abuse at the Lekki toll gate lacked independence and was questionable.

ECOWAS Court is wrong on this one.. the protesters gathered at Lekki tollgate that night violated a substantive curfew order imposed by the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu much earleir that day.
According to Laws of Nigeria, nobody is above the law and that curfew order became a law in Lagos State as early as 4pm all through the period workers closed from work. The ho0dlums were there to loot shops and cart away properties worth millions of naira belonging to other Nigerians.

Bode Thomas in Surulere was looted from beginning to end.. all the expensive phones and gadgets stolen, same story with Shoprite Lekki where the protesters broke into. I think Nigerian Government should ask ECOWAS to pay for the damages done in Lagos during EndSars and compensate all those that lost their properties to burglary.

Shebi ori everybody o fe pe ni.. let lawsuits start flying round.
