President Tinubu and his administration deserved the praise. President Tinubu has earned double appreciation as a defender of the local councils. As governor of Lagos, he sought the intervention of the same Supreme Court to establish the right of states to create councils in compliance with the provisions of the Constitution. In a reverse role, as president, he has succeeded in seeking another intervention of the apex court to establish the right of the councils to survive and perform the role envisaged by the Constitution.

As good as the judgement is, supreme court overstepped their bounds. The purpose of judiciary is to interpret laws and not to make laws but that judgement misinterpreted the constitution, section 62. Now, the same set of people now want the National Assembly to tinker with the constitution to reflect the judgement delivered.
No country develop in an anticlockwise manner. I said this when the AGF instituted the suit that he should have gone through the National Assembly by sending an executive bill for the amendment of section 62 of the constitution and also amend the section to empowering INEC to conduct their election, as the SIEC is outrightly abolished and also making their tenure at par with other elective officials, instead of the three year tenure. This will ensure that elections are conducted simultaneously same year and same time into all posts and that will remove the overbearing influence of the state governors at monopolizing the local government council election.
This will make more meaning than the back door route.

My fear now is, the governors may not allow the amendment to the constitution to fly because they control the ace of the state assembly and dictate their rhymes. Many times that the amendment had been sought but as soon as it gets to the state assembly, the amendment will not scale through.

Supreme Court is a court of law and also of public policy.

It was clearly stated that because of the overbearing of the Governors, Supreme Court doesn't have a choice but to rule in the interest of public policy...the ruling is a policy.
Let the Governors comply.

And you think we have heard it all? All these shenanigans will still past through the state assemblies for input because that clause must be expunged or tinkered on to reflect the judgement, hence many governors will still hide under the same clause to manipulate the local government funds indirectly. The future still much pregnant on this same issue.
Hope you're aware that the FG is not effecting the judgement now till after 3 months from the news I read yesterday. Even those that took the case to supreme court know the enormity of what is at stake and may want to use the 3 months window period to pacify the state assemblies. I had that AGF had meeting with them last week. Many things are hidden to some of you on the same issue.

Talking about Section 162, are you claiming to be more knowledgeable or wiser than the Supreme Court Justices?
If you realise that the State Governors have been bearing down on the LG Administrations and stealing funds meant for them, shouldn’t we rejoice that someone with balls has introduced legislation to clip their wings and allow the LGs to breathe?
Why must you wish for the status quo to remain merely because you think the FG wants more power….more power to do what exactly? Your reasoning is totally illogical and ridiculous!

∆ Those who knew the constitution and the Law better than you have given their judgement and decisions, and these stands until and if another constitution is fabricated for the country.
So therefore, your ranting and vituperation here is like the scratching of an ant on the ground, it serves no purpose.
When your governor was looting and flexing with what should be used to develop your LGA, there was no whimper from you. But when someone who want to develop your local community fought to rectify this anomaly and bring development to your village, instead of you applauding him, but because he defeated your candidate in the last election, you are here castigating him. Is that not witchcraft?

What you refer to as the status quo has been of illegal acts, violations of section 162 by your Governors for almost 25 years now that have been largely ignored by a population mostly ignorant of the details of their own Law. Now, to solve that illegality, rather than insist on the Law, your Supreme Court which is tasked with upholding the Constitution completely ignores it altogether to insist on another illegallity. How can that favor the people when the ones who continue to benefit are instead your politicians?

If someone is in stack violation of the law, the common sense thing that should happen is for that person to be arrested and prosecuted for thoze illegal acts -- in this case he would need to be impeached first. The fact that I continue to point out the illegallity of the actions of the Governors means I expect common sense to come next. Use your brain.
