Anguldi:1. See how easily that rolls off your mind there. Do you know that in over 400 years of the existence of the United States, there have been only 27 constitutional amendments? But do you know how many times, in the last 25 years alone, Nigerians have tampered with their Constitution? Do you know who has benefitted the most each time the Constitution has been tampered with under the guise of amendments and do you know those who have suffered the most? I can tell you that the politicians have benefitted the most each time, and the spread of corruption ...has not been brought to check with any of many amendments. ![]() 2. Tinubu, the same man who has been wasting vast resources with literally nothing to show for it all still is the one you intend to have put the Governors in their place? Which kain cool-aid be this all of una dey drink abeg... na very toxic stuff o! ![]() |

Kobojunkie:The #1 cause of underdevelopment in Nigeria is the governors, it surprises me how anyone would want to support them. They have been stealing LG funds since 1999. Some have consistently refused to conduct elections, accusing them of not knowing what to do with funds, yet turning around to loot those funds. In 12 years governorship would be scrapped, they should getat It’s better to empower 774 people than 36 Now the anti-graft agencies need to step their game up, daz all |

Nigerian will be great again, development is coming down to the grassroots, Tinubu is known to be an exceptional in terms of wisdom and calculations, he's leading the country to greatness but all the bad people, enemies of Nigerian will not like this. But Nigerian will succeed. |

Ebigwei007:This bill is dead on arrival! Even if it passed the Senate & the House, it will not become law period! Because there is no way 2/3rd of States would pass the bill which is required for it to become the law of the land. |
| Re: National Assembly Moves Bill To Grant INEC Authority To Conduct LG Election by Kobojunkie: 4:49am On Jul 18, 2024 |
iLoveYouToo:The Governors violated the Law of the Land. They illegally obstructed the functioning of LGs and embezzled public funds; In saner climes, all such governors would be removed from office, and prosecuted. But in Nigeria, no one seems to be calling for a common sense solution to all of that corruption and illegality. ![]() |

Unless and until the INEC chairman is appointed by the National Assembly, that rogue electoral body will collude with the party at the centre to rig elections for her. Matter of factly, the rigging will be so massive, widespread and ruthless because they understand the principles behind grassroots politics. |

Ebigwei007:If that will improve the country from local government’s perspective, so be it. The local governments have been helpless and useless under the governors. Hitherto, local governments used to engage in local road constructions and similar activities, but now they are as useless as ‘ay’ in okay. |

Kobojunkie:There’s already a law prohibiting their prosecution while in power, add that to their money chest, how would you remove them from power? They controlled LGs, the monarchs and state assemblies too and can’t be impeached. Until recently they controlled state judiciaries too. This LG autonomy ruling is akin to a factory reset. Let’s give it 12 months. |

Ebigwei007:The Governors are Growing More Wings Than Necessary Which Could Truncate The Life of Nigeria.... Infact, Federal Government is Helpless Other than Control of Security Aparatus .... Nigeria is not Yet Matured for Either Confederacy or Regionalism...... We have to get Churned The More & Fvcked One Another Very Well to become All One .... Until Then, We Can't Afford A Weak Federal Government since Most State Governor Are As Greedy as Greed Itself! The Nigerian Governor's Forum is Already Becoming a Pseudo Federal Government Itself ... The Voice of 36states Governors is becoming more Powerful Than The Voice of Federal Government... Clip them! |

iLoveYouToo:There is no law prohibiting their impeachment and prosecution for these crimes. ![]() 2. Yes, they can be removed from office. The only officials protected by an immunity clause in Nigeria are the President, the Vice president, the Governors, and the Deputy Governor. Even at that, in the case, there is evidence of crimes committed during the office, they can all be impeached and then prosecuted for said crimes. The fact that Judiciaries are controlled by them should not matter since the Senate is the office responsible for handling impeachments and they, senators and reps, can be recalled by the electorate. 3. It is no factory reset! LG autonomy is what currently exists and has been bastardized by the greed of the Governors. The recent ruling instead is a shift of illegal power from the Governors to the FG. Yes, it is illegal what the Governors have been doing. Prescribing to have FG directly control LGs is also illegal since it contravenes what is currently contained in the Constitution. What needs to change is not the Constitution but the handling of issues of illegality and embezzlement. ![]() |
