Probably you were still in Nursery not to have known the atrocities the beast committed against innocent Nigerians.
I was aware of Abacha's time but it was never as worst as Buhari's regime where money was removed from circulation and this Tinubu regime where food price is higher than the highest heavens. I am not an Obidient, neither am I a Batist. I wonder why people support any politician at all, because deep down we all know that they are all there to steal, kill and destroy.

Like Abacha like the current disaster on seat. The man is using all manners of subtle means to ensure he stays in office for a second time. First is LGA autonomy. Then next is the legislation to force only INEC to conduct LGA elections.

All good developments but trust, they are all laced with hidden motives given the alacrity the wicked NASS are expediting actions on these bills.
Na presidency dey hungry you and your fellow Ibos.
Obi go contest tire

There was no time in 1998 Abacha walked and/or worked with Abiola, Abiola was still in prison and there was an ongoing fight to release me by NADECO and OPC

If a kidnapper should engage the services of an engineer to help build a mansion, if same kidnapper is caught and arrested...will they also arrest the engineer working on the kidnappers mansion?

Thereafter, Dr Alex Ekwueme formed G35 group to oppose continuation of military govt.
From G35, PDP waa formed. Every reasonable Nigerian expected Ekwueme, the last VP to become the presidential candidate for PDP. But at last, Arewa former military dictators released Obasanjo from prison, funded Obasanjo and supported him to become the next president of Nigeria. Igbo will not rule Nigeria. Hunger and pestilence have not spared Nigerians since then. Karma is a bitch.

Throwback:
Actually, by now the 5parties = 1party state government would have continued to rule without any democratic freedoms that you now enjoy.

His son would have been preparing to take over from him like it happened in Togo with the Eyadema family.

Maybe Peter Obi would have continued working for the Abacha civilian regime, managing all the ports.

OBJ would have died in prison like Shehu Musa Yar'Adua.

Diya, Olanrewaju, and Adisa would have been executed later in 1998.

Sgt Rogers would have continued with his killer squad to eliminate any high profile Nigerian that oppose the Abacha government.

Abacha would have continued to promise that workers will smile soon, but would have continued to fight inflation better than the actual governments that came after him.

N1 coins could have remained useful, while labour might now have been fighting for N11,500 minimum wage.
He had plenty of time to execute Diya, Olanrewaju, and Adisa but he didn’t. You could still make point without this obvious lie.

Paraman:
What Abacha was trying to do in Nigeria is not possible. Nobody from any ethnic group can become a life president in Nigeria unless you want the country to split
That's one thing I still respect this country for. We have not even had a president who has held it for up to a decade at a stretch. The tension is too much.

last two paragraphs are flawed.

Hardship is largely tied to political structure issues.
Not the new wave that we are feeling bro.

That 11,500 might be worth more than 200,000 today .

Thanks.

I was 14 in 1996 and I knew so much about politics and current affairs of the era without social media. Thanks to radio and newspapers😀

Nigeria would have become like some of these countries a president is reelecting into power of seat multiple time.

Well, I no get energy to educate anybody.
Make una go research how much be minimum wage then and why we had "Abacha stove".
Cc: Beremx, seun, naptu2, nap2tu, Throwback, mynd22,

You see all these so-called Gen-Z rabble pikins, they lack understanding. They are repeating the northern youth lies that Abacha was a better leader. Do you know that:

- the Iyalode of Ẹgba, Mama Bisoye Tejuosho, a old woman and frail was cut into pieces ( by bullets , take note) by Sgt. Rogers? Because she was a hidden supporter of NADECO

- Suliat Adedeji, an Oyo state political power house politician, an aged woman was: beaten, tortured, raped numerously and shot to death by Sgt. Rogers & his boys. Unconfirmed reports were that objects were inserted into her vagina during torture!

- Kudirat was wasted at Ikeja. Have you seen a human being riddled with bullets before? Some assault rifles tear off the flesh into different pieces.

- I'm not even going to talk about the numerous individuals privately bombed in Lagos. Oh, what about Sgt. Rogers statement that the Marabouts from Mali or Senegal, advised Abacha to bury 10 female human heads in Aso Rock, to secure his permanent rulership of Nigeria. Check Tell magazine or others of that era.

Is that what these ignorant Indomie generation are calling " a better man"?
Sad.

Is that not Amoda at the back in the picture..
That was when ogunlere was still pretending to be a Democrat and everyone thought he had something to offer but how wrong they were.
Nothing much has changed since then till now. We are still a nation run by a different set of criminals and a perpetually docile citizenry.

You are a fool! You mentioned less loans, less population and it was abacha who was in power
Standing5:
Things were better but not his govt.

The population was less. Loans were less. Corruption more centralized.

People are disappearing now without writing anything, ask those who have been abducted and held for years in DSS custody without charge

Well, Nigerians are generally very quick to forget and even forgive. Perhaps you were not born then and were simply told about those days, or maybe just like I wrote above, you witnessed but have forgotten like the average Nigerian. God forbid I go back to those days.

The heat was on Abacha.
Hope you know Diya was a trained Lawyer , and he proved that they were being persecuted unjustly. And ppl like Woke Soyinka, using Radio Kudirat, were on his neck, broadcasting his atrocities all over the world ( on SW band).

So, Abacha couldn't had just executed them easily like Ken Saro Nwiwa ( Wiwa). He was looking at the political mathematics, if it would affect his being a civilian president. Then he " died suddenly".

The rest they say, is history.
