The big news is that the fx forward loans, pending international dividend and coupin remittances, and airline debts which reduced the notional $35bn you mention above to a realistic $18-20bn.

It was the revelation of that net sum that started a run on the naira.

That's the big deal. That's the effect of not subsidising the fx market with billions every month. Once the petrol issue is solved we can expect better.

Anyway, 35 billion is not enough for NIgeria. For a nation our size, 100 billion may be a good place, far more than that shows we are doing something right.

The subsidy buhari was paying was reduced over time, which manifested as a rize in prices from N87 to N195 when he left office. It also pushed us into budget deficits, and left us with 99% of our revenue going to service debt.

Tinubu was forced to reduce subsidy costs by raising petrol prices and cutting the subsidy totally at first, then bringing it back. Tinubu's subsidy cut led to debt service to drop to 67% of our revenue.

The problem with APC and tinubu is that revenues are still paid for via oil money. Tax and other sources contribute less than 20% of our reveue ,and oil money could feed a nation of 20million not the 260 million we are, which is why it is so difficult to fund fuel subsides....in part..and other subsides like power.
