Why is protesting against hardship such a big deal now? It wasn't when things were relatively very good during Jonathan's time. People dey look face but will turn around and complain at every opportunity.

The highlighted is exactly the reason why God said His own worshipers must not protest against the rulers ELECTED by their subjects.
Christians have no hope in human rulership {Psalms 146:3-4} that's why we always pray for God's Kingdom to come. Matthew 6:10

This rulers are standing in their positions until God's Kingdom is established on earth so they are the ones maintaining law and order coupled with the fear their subjects have for constituted authority {Romans 13:5-7} with the presence of this rulers people around us have a reason to fear doing certain things that's not good to their neighbors so while we keep God's laws to love our neighbors {Mark 12:31} they keep the laws their ELECTED rulers give them to make things balance! Romans 13:4


So the statement "ordained by God" doesn't mean God chose any human king apart from the Christ as anointed rather it means they are allowed to play their part under Satan's arrangement {Ephesians 6:12} Jesus never said Satan lied when he claimed the world's rulership has been given to him {Luke 4:6} just as all those operating under Satan's authority have also been given the time they will rule over mankind {Daniel 2:44} until then Christians must endure to the end {Matthew 24:13} whatever these people does under their overall world controller! 1John 5:19 compare to 2Corinthians 4:4
