Alhaji Aliko Dangote is a good businessman, who took the challenge of building the much needed Refinery to support local fuel production, no doubt. He is a good thinker for sure. But he fumbled. He fumbled big time. Recently, Dangote approached the Federal Govt, to stop "fuel importation" and direct all marketers to him. That is a big risk NO sensible government would take. A very big risk. And Dangote was wrong to even contemplate that idea, when his refinery was at pre-commissioning stage and at 50% completion. He thinks he is dealing with Buhari who is very useless and biased. Buhari rushed to commission that refinery when it wasn't fully ready. Though Dangote got much support from the FG and the CBN, he must realize that Fuel is not Cement. And like the FG said, energy security is paramount. Fuel affects everything in Nigeria. The FG would NOT stop fuel imports just because of One extra-large refinery. Dangote can not use a BAN to force all marketers to buy from him. He needs to compete. He needs to refine crude oil and sell at cheaper prices, then marketers would come to him. Dangote, sell at cheaper prices and marketers would come. That is how businesses compete. Not to seek government ban, and destroy other companies like he did with Cement. Today, a bag of cement is N7000. It was N3000 just few years ago. Fuel is NOT cement. 250 million livelihood and 3 million businesses run on fuel. Dangote would not get the ban he seeks. That is how he thrives. He thrives on government fiat. Let him compete with with other importers. If his prices are cheaper and his fuel is higher quality, he can sweep the market. The FG is right. Dangote, stop looking for a BAN on fuel imports. Compete. Offer cheaper fuel and win the market. |

critique99:Nonsense post. They said they are importing products because there is no refinery to refine. Now that there is refinery, why are they still importing? You people keep churning out foolish explanations to justify the criminality of Tinubu govt. Pls stop this arrant foolishness and tell your govt to stop importing petroleum products. |

Stop all imports ba. Because of Dangote refinery, one refinery. lol. Go back to basic Economics. or ask cement. No way for monopoly. Compete. |

Another useless post,I think it is high time investors stop putting their money in Nigeria. Nigerians are weird human beings..... anybody that mention modular refinery should invest it elsewhere in Africa and export the products to Nigeria, Nigerians love the word importation. Landing costs is heading to 2500 in coming months and some Nigerians are more concerned about Monopoly on a 20 billion dollar refinery.but you ignore bua that is building one in akwa ibom were it is even close to the oil block.nonsense mentality on this forum. |

The key word is "competition" not "importation". |

critique99:Some of you are not just smart Landing cost of petrol is close to 1200 but nnpc is selling 580 so you can buy 650 and take loss of over 600 You want Dangote a private individual to also take loss of 600 because you voted an idiot? If you want to talk about a sector spend 30 mins read about that sector first and stop disgracing yourself here |

mrvitalis:So you think that your Pandora Criminal that couldn't build a single school in 8 years would have been able to give you cheap fuel? |
| Re: Dangote Vs FG : An Assessment by mrvitalis(m): 2:10pm On Jul 22, 2024 |
JAMO84:Fuel is already cheap, Nigerians are just too poor thanks to APC If our GDP per capita can climb to 5000 dollars don't think anyone would complain of 90 cents fuel BTW obi renovated over 700 schools and please Igbo land stopped building schools in the 1980s You guys still don't have enough schools you still build today? |

He said the govt should buy from him. If he doesn't have the capacity, why will he say that? You're supporting a govt that has been trying to repair 4 refineries for ages to no avail. You're discouraging investment in Nigeria by hounding Dangote critique99: |

If local production doesn’t reduce price then what’s the point especially if it’s more expensive compared to imports. |
