The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has said the force would be professional in handling any protest in Nigeria. Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi disclosed this in a Facebook post on Tuesday. Adejobi quoted the police boss as saying: “We will be professional in handling any protest in Nigeria. Right to protest is right to peaceful protest.” NewsTip reports that some faceless Nigerian youths have threatened to embark on a 10-day nationwide protest to draw the federal and state governments’ attention to hunger and hardship in the country. The organisers have reportedly slated August 1 to August 10, 2024, to hold the protest. However, the presidency recently accused 2023 presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi and his supporters of instigating the planned protest. Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga urged the security agents to interrogate those behind the protests, whom he described as “agents of destabilisation”. However, Obi’s media team vehemently debunked claims that its principal instigated the protest. Obi’s team alleged that the accusation from the presidency that the former Anambra governor is behind the planned nationwide protest is a ploy to get him arrested. Kudos to the IG. THIS IS DEMOCRACY. Establish water posts for the protesters. Guide and move with the protesters. Watch out for troublemakers who will seek to turn it into chaos. Work with the organizers. If we are able to fix Nigeria, even the police too will enjoy it. |

Good. Now it's left for the intended protesters to gather in their home region and stage their protest their peacefully. Take note of the word home |

Sowore protest. The protest should be based on #BringBackSubsidy and not anti-government. It's totally baseless and the result won't be good if it escalates. |
