It will be "mental" if they are looking for a nulled script. Off the shelf isn't necessarily a bad thing. Nulled would be terrible. There are free (free beer and free speech) solutions with documented APIs that they just need to build a UI for and integrate the backend with a payment processor

have been invited to a fairly large establishment to help look into an issue, didn't need look much to see links and credits to the site where it was downloaded.

Atimes, the staff/developer could be one doing such without the superiors being aware.

There's this one involving a oneMan business where such nulled script was used. The client paid a previous developer to buy the script off codecanYon, and the person instead downloaded the nulled version, and pocketed the funds.

We were contacted when the current developer couldn't keep up with modifications (a lot of them ain't good enough hence the moment the client needs a plethorea of custom changes, they run), after being told what needed to be done, I made it clear of my dislike for script bought from places such as codeCanyon but had to still take on the task due to fact it was a referal.

Along the line, I realized it was a nulled script and was shocked because most wouldn't pay up to 30% of what He paid us. Most people who use nulled script find it difficult paying for anything. they want everything free and even when paying, want it as cheap as beer so I called and asked him and that was when issues arised.
He listened to me, thanked me and informed me he didn't buy it himself, told me how he trusted the previous developer who was his very close pal.

A lot of small businesses out there are using softwares with the least security. there's this microFinance bank I worked on recently, their script didn't just use PHP as a language, but it's PHp5.6 and to make matters worse, they still use md5 hashing for passwords.
You could makee guesses and manipulate things via urls. it's even worse if you have seen the codebase before. Let's not talk of the spagettiCodes.

See eh, a lot of people pay huge for noneSense

Thought they were crazy until I saw that they had hired a very competent Uruguayan firm to help them implement it after the original Naija company had stumbled. Very secure solution that was PCI/DSS compliant. It was mostly back end and they needed to build their own various frontends for Web and mobile. The Naija company had no competence building frontends and just wanted to deploy the bland, test frontend the project used

using openSource ain't bad at all. In fact, if I can't see the underlying code, i rarely would trust it.

Issue is, when a person not knowledgeable as a software developer, decides to build their business using stolen + corrupted softwares.

MySelf, could use a null script if I want, ( though wouldn't easily do such due to the fact I can understand what it takes to write a piece of software ) since I could easily g o through every line of code ensuring nothing is hidden there, and that no external calls are being made to fishy sources.

and a lot of them don't know the cost of fixing the issues should those who created backDoors, decides taking advantage of it.
