OKADA Air is Nigeria's first private airline (1983-1997), owned by Sir Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin Kingdom. The airline began charter operations in September 1983, featuring the Queen Idia mask as its official logo. Okada Air operated in 9 local airports in Nigeria.

During its operation, Okada Air was one of the largest independent airlines in Africa. In 1992, Okada Air was granted the right to operate international flights. At one point, it operated the Boeing 747-100 on ad-hoc charter flights across the globe, including flights across the Pacific Ocean. They also transported pilgrims to the Holy Lands every year. Although the airline expanded its operations, it was eventually disestablished in 1997.

No one is even remembering Okada airline. Our biggest problem is maintenance culture

The Nigerian government are not interested in doing it but are much interested in killing their own home investment 😉

The successive Northern military dictators killed it. If Southern Nigerians knew what North has done to them, they will unite today and break away from Nigeria.

Okada airline.

I learnt this a second time, the day I had an interview with A transport company.
I wanted to pitch the management on how we'd be the first transport company to own their dedicated cargo airline flying across Nigeria.

I googled it and found Okada airline, and Concord airline.
I still used the pitch, and I did get the job.

It is normal for airlines to go under. Sometimes though, mergers with other airlines can help it stay afloat. Besides okada air, there was Kabo air and Chachangi airlines. All went under.
That's the typical mentality of the black man for you. Instead of them all merging to stay afloat, they watched as their fortunes kept dwindling.
