*SOUTH EAST DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION: NDIGBO WILL REPAY PRESIDENT TINUBU'S KIND GESTURES.*

Hon. Amb. Timothy Nwachukwu LLB, The Technical Assistant on Communication, Office Of The Senior Special Assistant To the President of Nigeria on Students Engagement has lauded President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for assenting into law the South East Development Commission Bill and assured that Ndigbo will stand in solidarity with the President in his quest to entrench true federalism and engender developments across all zones in the country.


Amb. Nwachukwu described President Tinubu as a strong advocate of true federalism that engaders development across Nigeria who has continued to emphasize the need for targeted interventions to address regional disparities and promote inclusive growth.


He stated that the South East Development Commission Act is a giant leap towards addressing the developmental challenges bedevilling the South East region of Nigeria as it has the potential to end the huge deficit of federal infrastructure, curb the cases of kidnapping and other criminal activities that create a security situation not conducive for growth and development.



Amb. Timothy Nwachukwu further appreciated past and present members of the National Assembly of Nigeria who played various role in the passage of the South East Development Commission Bill through the legislative process, which involved multiple stages of review, debate, and amendments and ensured its alignment with national development priorities.


The South East Development Commission will be charged with the responsibility to receive and manage funds from the allocation of the federation account for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads, houses and other infrastructural damage suffered by the South East region as a result of the effect of the civil war after 54 years.


The Commission has the mandate to provide a roadmap for the development of roads, education, health facilities, industrialisation, agriculture, housing and urban development, water supply, electricity and commerce in the five-member states of Anambra, Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi and Abia.

Moreso, the Commission will provide policies and guidelines for the development of the South East, the conception of plans for development following set rule as well as produce regulations, programmes and projects for sustainable development of the region.


Amb. Nwachukwu emphasised that this landmark legislation has the potential to transform lives and uplift communities in South East region, However, effective resource allocation, transparent governance, and monitoring mechanisms must be addressed for successful implementation.
