The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Benue state has directed its party chairmen in the 23 local government areas to ensure zoning of the chairmanship and councillorship positions in their respective councils.

The party said the directive was to avoid acrimony ahead of the October 5 local government elections in the state.

Recall that the Chairman of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, BSIEC, Dr. John Chen, had announced that the council poll slated for November 16 had been brought back to October 5.

He said the new date was to beat the deadline of the recent ruling of the Supreme Court.

The BSIEC Chairman announced the new date midweek when he hosted members of the Benue State House of Assembly Committee on Electoral Matters and Civil Society, led by its Chairman, Mr. Abu Umoru at the Commission’s headquarters in Makurdi.

Represented by the Commission’s Secretary, Dr. Vincent Gisaor, the Chairman explained that the backward shift in the date of the poll “is due to the recent ruling of the Supreme Court”.

APC SEC schedules stakeholders meeting

The State Executive Committee, SEC, of the APC in a statement by its acting Chairman, Mr. Benjamin Omakolo, directed the LG party chairmen to convene a meeting of stakeholders in the various councils to finalise zoning.

Part of the statement read: “Sequel to the commencement of programmes for the forthcoming Local government elections, the State Executive Committee of APC in Benue State under the esteemed leadership of Benjamin Omakolo has directed the party Chairmen in the 23 LGAs to organise stakeholders meeting for the purpose of zoning of chairmanship and councilorship positions.

"The meeting is expected to hold latest Tuesday, July 30, across all the 23 local governments of the state.

“The caretaker committee chairmen are admonished to undertake logistic roles to execute a hitch free zoning meeting.”

The BENUE STATE governor, Rev father Alia is working very well but Akume, the Secretary to the Government of Federation is threatening his Second Term because he refused to be dancing to his tune. BENUE Workers and Pensioners are now collecting Salary before 27th of every month unlike the disastrous Ortom's government that refused to pay workers. BENUE people are ready to disgrace Akume and his boy Austin Agada who don't want good things in BENUE State. I am not an APC supporter but the father is Working good in the State. He is doing well like the Abia State Governor.

From what I know, PDP didn't zone it for the over 20 years they spent in power, but somehow, u foIks will look for a party to bIame whereas u know it's a tribaI thing.
The zoning of governorship has always been at the disposal of PDP, they never did it but u bIame another party.
