You removed fuel subsidy. It made the population impoverished, starving and dropping dead like flies. On whose behalf then did you remove the subsidy? The essence of government is betterment for the governed.

Since the removal of subsidy, looting and stealing has become the order of the day.

No working system, only the impoverishment of millions of Nigerians.

What new investment was made since 29 May 2023 with the petroleum subsidy money retained, if truly subsidy was removed?

The government argued that the removal of the heavy subsidy (1)would free up funds for other public services, including health and infrastructure projects, and the liberalization of the fuel industry would benefit the economy.
While the current situation is affecting Nigerians, it is important to create an avenue for enlightenment and this explainer will highlight some benefits of fuel subsidy removal.
According to the National Orientation Agency, (2)removing fuel subsidy in the country will stop corruption around what is known as the subsidy regime, which has made some individuals stupendously rich without industry. Now, this will bring about a resource balance and will be of benefit to majority of the populace. shocked
(3)It will free up the humongous amounts paid out as subsidy, paving way for enhanced growth in critical sectors of national development. This means that other sectors of the economy will be developed and not just those perceived as critical. tongue
(4)The subsidy removal will also put an end to the smuggling of Nigeria’s Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to neighbouring countries, which is an organised theft and diversion of the PMS aided by the country’s easily penetrated borders which affect the economy.

(5)This development will solve the problem of perennial fuel scarcity and the attendant hardship on citizens grin thereby stimulating responsible consumption and reducing waste as the prices become more market reflective.
(6)The fuel subsidy removal will curb the greed for higher profits and deliberate sabotage by a few players in the oil industry which will positively affect the economy of the country.
In the past, Nigeria pays N400bn monthly in fuel subsidy payments. (7)What the removal means is that the government will put that money to use in other sectors like education, health, and other infrastructural development.
Wow... Yet the removal of fuel subsidy has checked absolutely none of the points raised. Rather, corruption in Nigeria has ballooned with subsidy payouts more than doubled even though Government claimed it had been removed. To add to insult against the intelligence of Nigerians, the Nigerian Government now claims their is no money to do even the most basic of the job it was hired by the people to do. This government, at all levels, is filled with most of Nigeria's most incompetent, corrupt and inept. undecided

it would have been better if one or two of our refinery have started working before subsidy was stop, it is not the fault of Nigerians that none of our refinery are working, the citizens can not be made to pay for government failure if there can't fix our refinery, there should keep paying for the subsidy forever, to people who believe the lie that the money save from subsidy will be use for critical infrastructure, have the government told us how much there have save since the removal of subsidy over a year ago.

There is nothing wrong with subsidy removal, but there is everything wrong with the implementation.

Let us use the bricks game that kids play as an example, If you take a brick out, what happens to the whole building? It collapses! And that is why the removal of fuel subsidy is collapsing our economy. This is the gospel truth! Forget the benefits the removal has to benefit Nigerians, of what use is the benefits when the economy collapses?

If truly you mean to remove the fuel subsidy, you will at least make one or two of our refineries to kick start operation. Then you will remove the subsidy at 25% > 50% > 75% and then 100%. By then, all these your promises that looks EMPTY now of what you intend to do with the removal of fuel subsidy will have been 100% actualized.

And one important thing to take into consideration is that OPEC price CANNOT and SHOULD not determine how much petroleum products is sold to citizens inside Nigeria when the crude oil used to produce the petroleum products is explored from our country. OPEC or Brent price should only be standard when you're selling crude oil abroad. Cost of production should be the determinant facto of the price of petroleum products to the citizens.

But as long as you have refused to fix our refinery and adamantly turn a blind eye on Dangote refinery that has the capacity and capability to refine crude oil and give us PMS, AGO etc then the removal of fuel subsidy will fail. As it has failed already because it is exactly the root cause of the upcoming protest.

Tinubu complained bitterly of the faceless implementation of the cashless policy, not a bad idea, but it was badly implemented. It is the same with the adoption and fully implementation of faceless removal of fuel subsidy.

Iyaloja can also testify since she is head of market women of Nigeria that things have really gone worst.

Coke bottle (plastic) moved from 150:00 to N400,
Beans (brown) moved from N800:00 per mudu to N4,300
Bag of rice (polished parboiled) local) moved from N24,000 to N85,000
Satchet water moved from N100 per bag to N400.00

This is almost 300% increase in the price of everything! This is coupled with the fact that herdsmen and bandits have wrecked so much havock on Nigerian farmers throughout Buhari's eight years tenure, and you know everything about it. Did we forget the rice farmers that were beheaded in Borno State? Mass killing of farmers in Benue State? Massacre of beans farmers by herdsmen in Taraba State so that their cows can eat what they did not cultivate and many more. What where you thinking would be the ripples effect of these nonsense?

So these promises are good, but the people have suffered too many persecution with much perseverance in the past to the extent that we can equally say the practice of democracy is destructive in a way considering the numbers of years we have been patient for it to get better for us as citizens.

There is no two ways about it, without application of wisdom, I see nothing but trouble ahead.

First and foremost, fuel subsidy removal is not gone, gvt still pays heavily for it just that they lack the courage to admit it. Also, from the acclaimed removal money they've generated, it hasn't benefited the economy but made it worse. May God deliver us from this clueless and evil gvt

We can all see today that, the reverse is the case. What had the subsidy removal yielded so far?

1) Many homes have been thrown into poverty, including the homes of the keyboard warriors on Nairaland who are supporting this evil government but only suffering and smiling.

2) A lot of SMEs have closed shop thereby throwing millions into unemployment, directly or indirectly

3) A lot of our youths have left the country after losing their jobs

4) inflation has been in it's highest peak since independence.

5) Insecurity has increased due to hardship in the land.

6) Many ladies now do hook up to augment their earnings while guys have taken to vices

7) Life has become so hard for many as they can't even move around with their vehicles anymore

8 ) Nigerian government now pays subsidy in trillions.

9) No single kobo was saved as a result of the subsidy removal.

Lastly, when they say karma is real, only fools will differ. Tinubu hit the streets during Jonathan era and disrupted a peaceful and progressive government with a robust GDP, just because he said he wanted to remove subsidy for the benefits of all.

Jonathan had even provided palliatives and set up a Sure-P programme for the reinvestment of the subsidy proceeds ahead of the removal. He sent buses to states nationwide but you discouraged fashola ftom accepting the ones sent to Lagos. You called gej unprintable names, sponsored protests nationwide with our state's funds.

Many gullible and tribalistic bigots swallowed his propaganda hook, line and sinker just to hijack power. Kayode fayemi corroborated this political gang up a few months ago during a gathering in which GEJ was in attendance, he said the protest was political. After hijacking power, you now brought up same subsidy removal even without a single palliative in place. People now want to protest and you're busy bribing fake groups to discourage it. This protest will probably be the longest and widest in the history of Africa. No home is spared from the current economic woes.

All those who revolted against Jonathan back then, using insecurity, kidnaping and other means are now in the apc, holding key positions. Atahiru Jega the former inec chair has recently joined them, l'obatan. After all Orubebe was right when he was accusing him in the collation room.

Why is it only Nigeria that's hardest hit by the so-called global inflation in africa? Karma is the answer.
God bless you richly dear.
Re: Benefits Of Fuel Subsidy Removal - Daily Trust by bentenny(m): 2:12am On Jul 29, 2024
Firstly, one of the reasons why there was subsidy of pms was to cushion the effect on the economy and the citizens!
Another reason for subsidy was to ensure that refineries were properly repaired or replaced with a new one!
So when Tinubu removed subsidy,it was expected that the refineries would almost be complete for providing pms!
Since the ill fated announcement of Tinubu on subsidy removal, nothing has changed!
The things that should have been done to cushion the effect is still a futuristic tense!
The price of pms keep increasing and won't stop until the refineries start functioning...

1.I do not support tinubu, or your side. Apolitical I am

2. Supporting fuel subsidy removal means I support the ending of corruption and scams around it, as well as its contribution to our massive debt problem

3. I have supported fuel subsidy removal since 2011. Tinubu back then was opposed, as was his friend Buhari. Does that mean you are a tinubu supporter?

4. Yes, it is a painful thing, but can you stand the pain of rising debt and lack of job growth and investment in domestic refining?

Better consider others views, son. APC Is useless as PDP. But there is a sane reason for subsidy removal, and this was seen in 2011, when GEJ Had to do a partial removal because subsidy costs in 2011 were thrice that in 2010, and if it had continued, by 2014, subsidy costs would have eaten our revenue

Also, by 2023, May, debt was eating 99% of our revenue, and we were in serious trobule. At that point something had to give, and all the three main candidates had said subsidy had to go....I guess that makes them as evil as you think I am though.

Private property has made us so stupid and one-sided that an object is only ours when we have it – when it exists for us as capital, or when it is directly possessed, eaten, drunk, worn, inhabited, etc., – in short, when it is used by us. Although private property itself again conceives all these direct realisations of possession only as means of life, and the life which they serve as means is the life of private property – labour and conversion into capital.

Labour is the source of all wealth, the political economists assert. And it really is the source Ð next to nature, which supplies it with the material that it converts into wealth. But it is even infinitely more than this. It is the prime basic condition for all human existence, and this to such an extent that, in a sense, we have to say that labour created man himself.

A revolution is not a dinner party, or writing an essay, or painting a picture, or doing embroidery; it cannot be so refined, so leisurely and gentle, so temperate, kind, courteous, restrained and magnanimous. A revolution is an insurrection, an act of violence by which one class overthrows another.

There are two sets of criminals here. The old and the new. With the old criminals, the masses benefitted: cheap fuel and food.

With the new criminals, the politicians alone are the ones benefiting because fuel and food are expensive, yet the money has been shared amongst politicians, judges, highly ranked men and some parts used in rubbing corruption on our faces by buying vehicles, planes, yatch, etc. for their leisure.

Some bought houses abroad, put some in crypto and paid their grandchildren's school fees even before they were born.

When they want to do projects, the give the contract to someone who belongs to their cartel and bloat the price so that they'll make profit and share it behind the scene in exchange for a poorly done project.
you said it all, despite this you can see many morons still supporting them as if their own life doesn't matter or is inferior to that of their leaders, how they benefit from being tribal beats me,they refused to use their God given brain

After removing the subsidy, he's now paying it to himself. You removed subsidy, after 1yr, no light, no good roads, no new funding for schools, no quality healthcare, food has gone up 500x, LPG that's locally sourced and produced has increased more than 5x, electricity by 10x, but your funding for government edurado has increased by 1000x and the size of your government has increased. You're a joker. Return PMS to N150 and LPG to N200. This Tinubu is worst than Nebuchadnezzar.
