The Guardian, a southern newspaper, which does not support tinubu, has a good article on the same matter in its August 2022 edition.

APC government said that they removed subsidy but subsidy payment has quadrupled from Buhari's time.

So what exactly is the folks at Daily Trust talking about?

All the above points were mentioned before Tinubu became president and we supported subsidy removal until they started sharing billions upon billions for SUVs to few people and filling stations now get freedom to increase their pump prices at will and queues appearing in filling stations constantly. No uniform price, no stable price and you wonder if we have just anyone in charge of power to rule this country.
Re: Benefits Of Fuel Subsidy Removal - Daily Trust by Inspirer1: 5:27am On Jul 29, 2024
I see a lot of "... will..." in that article even after a year of the proclamation that "subsidy is gone"...

I don't understand what the article is meant for after a year, this article is something that was suitable for publication months before May 29, 2023.

It doesn't make any sense now other than it getting people more angered as virtually none of what it was set out to achieve has been achieved.
Re: Benefits Of Fuel Subsidy Removal - Daily Trust by Tianamen1:
Without a proper understanding of why petrol prices rise, government policy actions are certain to fail.

When crude oil prices rise, the government should raise the cost of petrol.
When the value of the Naira falls, the government should reduce spending or raise taxes.

This is so basic, yet Nigerian "LEADERS" are so foolish.
Re: Benefits Of Fuel Subsidy Removal - Daily Trust by Squeezer2024: 5:43am On Jul 29, 2024
You are 100% right, subsidy is gone was a kind of divert public attention
Basicend:
Who concocts all this rubbish and flaked pieces?

You know deep down your lying troat that the current government is paying even more subsidy than the Buhari era.

Let's say subsidy was even removed indeed, how has the Tinubu led government allocated it's proceeds? Have you seen any signs that this lot can manage funds with equity and accountability?

I wonder what these naiaraland mods are doing, and what their job is really.

(1)would free up funds for other public services,
they should ask the president, where are the funds for other public services coming from, since deregulation has imparted on private businesses and the public sector by way of increase fuel price and transportation hike for domestic goods and services thereby trunkating the economy and exchange rate?

Was he not suppose to set up strategies to cushion the effects of subsidy removal before embarking on deregulation like a mad man who done smoke moroko on winning election?

He must be a very stupid man.
He should just wait for the consequences of his ignorance.

Oga stop misleading and decieving yourself, this your analysis is good, everyone agree to it a year ago but what did Tinubu did in one calendar year, has infrastructure improved? Has health sector good, has electricity Ok? What happened to security? Instead the mad man floated naira and continue to increase the price of other things beneficial to poor Nigerians while he continues to increase his own assets, aquiring luxury for himself and his friens, nepotism at its peak, inflation at 44%, even regime that pays subsidy parform Better. Tinubu is a thief, wicked and a useless fellow. He must be dealt with seriously

Says funds from Subsidy removal will be used to enhance Education etc. when school fees of Government tertiary institutions especially universities have been more than tripled.
Their is no denying that the removal of fuel subsidies will fetch the government N400b or N800b monthly. But this money will be used to buy Yatch and Planes for those in power.
The people are hungry, and the government have not provided a clear path or timeline to remove that ginger. Fuel subsidy removal has caused untold hardship for the common man. Anyone who doesn't understand this is not facing the hardship. This is not uncommon for Nigerians not to feel the pains of their neighbors anyway.

How do you explain to me that my monthly salary that can buy 7 bags of rice and remain cannot buy two bags? How do you explain to students who used to pay N45,000 as school fees then that paying N150,000k is fair now. Meanwhile their have been zero infrastructural development in the schools. Subsidy removal added more harm than good to the country jare

This reads as if one is writing an exam, where almost all the answers given aren't feasible.

All the points noted in this article, non of them address how fuel subsidy removal will make the price of goods and services to drop, because fuel and the US dollar, are responsible for basically everything in Nigeria.
Re: Benefits Of Fuel Subsidy Removal - Daily Trust by TRAPLORD13: 6:44am On Jul 29, 2024
Before removing the subsidy Tinubu should have at least repaired one or two of the Refineries so as to mitigate the effect of the removal.

Well, they have been saying it for years. Simon Kolawole has been writing articles about it for over a decade, and the Guardian article was in August 2022

A lot of people have also been shouting about subsides. The Emir of Kano has been consistent about it since 2011, even going on international tv to state the case for subsidy removal shortly after being enthroned as Emir.

Has the fuel subsidy by this government curbed scarcity?Has it reduced corruption?Has it increased revenue generation? It has only increased income/revenue generation with no visible impact in the condition of living for the ordinary Nigerians but has tremendously benefited political officeholders and their allies.

Why did this same set of people sponsor massive protest tagged " OCCUPY NIGERIA" against the subsidy removal during GEJ's administration when it was so perfect and convenient to do the needful? They called themselves patriots, they knew the truth that the subsidy had to go and yet they deceived vulnerable poor Nigerians and led us into the current messy situation. Last last, na all of us go chop the breakfast, lunch and dinner. shocked

Does it means without the fuel subsidy removal Nigeria don't have any other source of income?
Re: Benefits Of Fuel Subsidy Removal - Daily Trust by Thomthom(m): 8:16am On Jul 29, 2024
Eriokanmi:
We can all see today that, the reverse is the case. What had the subsidy removal yielded so far?

1) Many homes have been thrown into poverty, including the homes of the keyboard warriors on Nairaland who are supporting this evil government but only suffering and smiling.

2) A lot of SMEs have closed shop thereby throwing millions into unemployment, directly or indirectly

3) A lot of our youths have left the country after losing their jobs

4) inflation has been in it's highest peak since independence.

5) Insecurity has increased due to hardship in the land.

6) Many ladies now do hook up to augment their earnings while guys have taken to vices

7) Life has become so hard for many as they can't even move around with their vehicles anymore

8 ) Nigerian government now pays subsidy in trillions.

9) No single kobo was saved as a result of the subsidy removal.

Lastly, when they say karma is real, only fools will differ. Tinubu hit the streets during Jonathan era and disrupted a peaceful and progressive government with a robust GDP, just because he said he wanted to remove subsidy for the benefits of all.

Jonathan had even provided palliatives and set up a Sure-P programme for the reinvestment of the subsidy proceeds ahead of the removal. He sent buses to states nationwide but you discouraged fashola ftom accepting the ones sent to Lagos. You called gej unprintable names, sponsored protests nationwide with our state's funds.

Many gullible and tribalistic bigots swallowed his propaganda hook, line and sinker just to hijack power. Kayode fayemi corroborated this political gang up a few months ago during a gathering in which GEJ was in attendance, he said the protest was political. After hijacking power, you now brought up same subsidy removal even without a single palliative in place. People now want to protest and you're busy bribing fake groups to discourage it. This protest will probably be the longest and widest in the history of Africa. No home is spared from the current economic woes.

All those who revolted against Jonathan back then, using insecurity, kidnaping and other means are now in the apc, holding key positions. Atahiru Jega the former inec chair has recently joined them, l'obatan. After all Orubebe was right when he was accusing him in the collation room.

Why is it only Nigeria that's hardest hit by the so-called global inflation in africa? Karma is the answer.
Kai, who born you born picking.

Most Nairalanders don't know that this post by the Daily Post is actually a hidden reverse psychology. It is pointing to the opposite direction.

However, I'm noticing nairalander1 now writing something's...em...like communism something's.

Ki-ki-ki! grin. gringrin gringringrin

So ...nairalander1 is now promoting a DEAD IDEOLOGY!
KI-KI-KI! grin

Communism that is dead all over the world, and we Africans never even accepted it, because we saw it was anti- people at its core. Even China doesn't practice classic communism: it's economy is capitalism but politics is communism-dictatorship.
Abi , Russia that has scrapped the communism nonsense.

A product of the mind of a Jewish madman Karl max and Engels .
Used to 419 the Soviets into handing their nations to the Jews ( Abi you no know say na wetin happen in 1911s be dat?). And the European soviets discovered they were working for free for the Jews, who killed their leaders and installed themselves into power...which led them into chasing and driving away many of these crazy Jews from Poland to America ...and same America is now a servant giving the Jews free money, welfare to their lazy religionists (who don't believe in work but are given free money from white and black Americans taxes), weapons and their foreign policy and interests is bowed to jewish interests.

I believe that after the Ukraine war ( for example), there will be another uprising against the Jews who used their heads to bang their brother ( Russia) , while waiting in the shadows to steal their land ( check the reason why zele the clown was voted massively in to power).

Nairalander1, stop your fake ideology.
We know that just like APC, your ideology is your stomach and your penis. grin
